1911 with a 6" barrel??
« on: April 11, 2005, 04:54:04 PM »
I was wondering who makes a 1911 45acp with a 6" barrel?  I have only seen one once a while back and i was wondering who made it or is there a few manufacturers making them.  The longer barrel sure looked impressive the gun looks quite a bit larger but i wonder how more accurate the 6" barrel is over the 5 1/4"?  It must handle better too with the extra weight up front too.                                 BigBill

I will try this again-looks like the other post got lost in cybor space.
I like the 6" guns and the longer sight radius.
SCI, SV make 6" 1911's on a regular basis.
SA and others of this genre also on irregular shop runs.
On my day trip to Austin last month it was for the purpose of buying a 1911 from Dawson precision, maybe in a 6", maybe in a .38 super.
Visited the SCI factory and then drove to Dave's. Decided, at the last minute, to get the Government model in a .45. I decided the extra $$$$'s could be spent on some upgrades to the 5" gun over the cost of the 6 incher.
I have resisted, well not resisted, but deterred the last two purchases because of not finding the 6" in a 9X23 or Super .38 for the cash on hand (you know-laundered money, money the Hen doan know about).
It will happen though, when I decide to just hang the cost and do it, cause it looks like I aint never gonna find it for the price I want.
Ed brown and those boys make some 6" weapons at their place's.
Blessings

In a 1911 with a red dot sight I like the 5" barrel better. Accuracy is no different. In a bullseye configuration it really does add weight to the gun, and the extra weight doesn't make an improvement.  Rock River makes a 6" bullseye gun.

Also making a 6" inch bll 1911 is Springfield. Dont know how you feel about them, but I love and am a pretty diehard springfield shooter. In fact, not to start a flam war here in your post, but, I would take Springfield over alot of Kimbers. Anyhow this gun is a pretty good price and feels really nice in your hands. I do not own one, but have shot my ranges a ton.

Here is the link.
