Yes, there are air pistol silhouette shooters in Texas, USA. The NRA has full rules and specifications. IHMSA also has air pistol, with slightly different rules and specs. IHMSA has a class where most people shoot Daisy 747 pistols ($150), open sight (notch or peep) and scopes. NRA has fewer restrictions. Many people start with a IZH-46 pistol (open sight or scope), then move to more Olympic style precharged pneumatic (PCP) pistols (Steyr, Morini, Hammerli, etc.). Open sights have been notch with post front, with the latest a Williams FoolProof with Merrit peep aperture rear and post front. Scopes range from reddots to 25X rifle scopes. Positions vary from laying down (Creedmore, dead frog, prone) to standing. Targets are at 10, 12.5, 15, and 18 yards (not meters). Scores are usually better in air pistol than any powder burning pistol. Good scores are 35+ for open sights, 40x40 scope. Several shooters here have shot 40x40, some multiple times each year.
I shoot a Steyr LP5 and LP10. Biggest problem with repeaters is you shoot too fast. Fast usually means missed targets.
One nice thing is air can be shot indoors easily. Little noise, small size, little cleanup. Reset targets are easy to make/buy and greatly speed up the event.
Good luck.
