barrel lugs
« on: April 12, 2005, 12:54:28 PM »
Does anyone out there know if there is a source for contender barrel lugs,  I searched the net and have come up empty handed.  I have some extra barrels around,  And figured it was worth a shot to try work somthing up.

Perhaps I should have given more detail :oops: ;
The extra barrels are not currently contender barrels, but blanks and take-offs from other rifles.

My thinking was cut off the threads (if applicable) and turn barrel to correct diameter, rechamber, and TIG weld on the T/C lug.

In the end I have a Contender barrel for around $50 (Labor is cheap, I work for beer and band-aids)  which is still $100+ cheaper than a used barrel.

The way too do it is buy a junker barrel  Cut it just ahead of the lug , Thread it internally and Thread your barrels to match . Would work best for small calibers no stompers.

I doubt you'll find the bottom portion for TC barrels. You could make your own if you have the machining capabilities. Wouldn't be too difficult.  KN

Considering the margin of error available....I'd spend the money myself.
