Bears out!
« on: February 13, 2003, 04:24:37 PM »
If anyone has been reading all the posts here you will know that Alaska has had some unusual weather this year and many areas around Anchorage are without snow.  The Iron Dog snowmachine race was canceled, Fur Rondi dog sled race, Iditarod restart has been moved to Fairbanks.

And now, the bears are starting to be seen already. The evening news tonight carried a story of four bears out, one black has been seen in Fairbanks and a black was near Ellison  AFB.

Matt!!!!!! were getting there guy!  Something to shoot pretty sooon!

Dave,

I'm pretty excited.  I may just take a little drive to the Kenai Peninsula and see what's movin' around.  There's only snow on about half the ground in Anchorage...and shrinkin' daily.

I think I already posted that the caribou hunt was scrapped.  Maybe my standards are low, but I was impressed that Natron Air didn't take us out "just to see" so they could make a few bucks.  I had to take my name of the standby list for caribou and he's still sending back the deposit -- nice guy.  I also had to cancel my Hawaii hunting trip for hogs for military reasons.

Come on Spring!!!

Conditions for fly out hunts are terrible out here right now - be glad you're working with a good outfit that doesn't rip you off.  Many of the rivers are open and ice is not safe on many lakes.  Shoot it was freezing rain and snow off and on all day in Dillingham.  Terrible flying conditions. So sorry you couldn't get a hunt in.
