Who shoots an SBH with 10.5-inch barrel
« on: April 12, 2005, 08:50:35 PM »
Dunno why, but I keep coming back to this model, and am thinking of ordering one as my only SA revolver. I have had three, as well as a number of 7.5-inch and 5.5-inch barreled .44 Magnums. The long barrel is not nearly as handy to pack, but for a small amount of extra trouble, I have gotten much better practical accuracy, a great sight radius and more gentle manners in recoil.
Has your mileage varied?

i sure liked mine.  dad liked it alot, too.  so i sent it home with him.

i have to agree,  it wasnt the easiest think to carry,  but shooting it was fun.  i rarely missed.   but given my experience with ruger super blackhawks, i wont be getting another.   i have been thinking on a f.a. 10 inch 44, though.  i really like my 7.5 inch f.a. and think the 10" would be even better.   i would call it my "big ten inch". :)

Bill,

Only one SA?
I only have 2 with the 10" barrel.
Three with a 9"
A couple at 7.5....
One at 6
and a BUNCH at 4 5/8"

You cannot keep that 44 lonely for long.  Get a friend to go with it.  You have two hips!!

Bought a blued one a while ago that was ported and has Hogue grips.  Just can't used to those grips so I bought a set of Herretts which are even bigger and feel even worse.  I am ready to send it to a new home.  Balance just seems wrong and neither set of grips improved it. It feels like it sets sideways in my grip.  I have pretty large hands so its not a problem of the grips being too big.  I've owned and shot other Blackhawks in 41 mag and 357 with factory grips so if I keep it it will go back to stock panels. Other alternative is to change barrels to something shorter.

Hello Bill, I have a 10.5" SBH in 44 mag. It is ugly with half of the blueing missing from a surface rust a long time ago. I picked it up cheap and it turned out to be a great shooter. I used it in Field pistol for a long time and did pretty well. It has been retired to hunting deer now but I still have sight settings.

I also have a 10.5" SRM in 357 Maximum that served as a standing and Big Bore revolver gun for a couple of years. It is now also a hunting gun since I picked up a FA 41 mag.
Come on out to a match and let me know when you are coming, I'll dust my 44 off and we can beat up some little targets.

Even though you asked about SBH's, I have a SA Interarms Virginian Dragoon with a 10.5" barrel.

I'm glad I bought it.  Definately not as easily wielded as a shorter barreled cannon, but it does have its benefits..   more accurate, extra velocity, etc.

At times though, I wish I had a shorter barrel.  Especially when I'm hopping back into my car to another fishing hole or hunting spot(I have LTCF=me legal).

Finding holsters for such long Buntline lengthed pistols is a turd.

Joe: Appreciate the invite. I don't get over to Bend as often as I'd like, but I do appreciate it. Those are some nice irons you have for deer hunting.

Until a few years ago.  Wish I still was:)

As for the 10.5 ", I have an FA 83 454/45acp Magnaport Stalker.  It shoots like a house on fire and packs like an anchor.  All in all, it's a great gun.  You might find it listed in the classifieds some time though because I need a packing gun more than a long distance iron.

Holsters...no problem.  Call Pistol Packaging.  They'll get one out to you right quick.
