I shot a Glock 26 today for the first time, I really liked it. I plan to do alot more target practice with it. I did pretty good for a first time tho, if ya ask me. :wink:

I never was a big Glock fan. In fact I hated then for a long time. I am a 1911 shooter mostly. Any-how I got a Glock 22 in .40CAL for CHRISTmas and played with it a little, still did not like it much. Then about 2 months ago I was at the range and there was a Glock shooter teacher there, so, we got to talking and I decided to take a few of his classes. I never turn down a good lesson in hand guns and this guy sounded pretty smart.

As far as today I have a totally new out-look on Glocks I love them, not even close to my Springfield and Kimber .45 1911s, but I like Glocks a hole lot more. I have since talked my dad into getting a Glock 19 in 9MM and I have bought a new Glock 34 also in 9mm. I did a few mods on our 3 Glocks, night sights, trigger pull, SS recoil spring guid, EXT. EXT. .

This is just MHO but, I think on a "out of the box" Glock 3 things have to go.

1)The rear box sight is CRAP. Get a 3 dot night sight.

2)The 5 pound trigger pull is CRAP. For $20.00 and a 10 minute install get the 3 1/2 pound trigger pull.

3)Get the stainless steel recoil spring and rod kit.

Other good things to get are the extended MAG. release and the extended slide release. (they come stock on the 34 model)

I have all these things noted on all my Glocks. It makes for a better gun.

I do not know what part of TENN you are from but they are having a GSSF match on Saturday. There will be some great shooters there and some tricked Glocks.

A score of 500 is best, today while practicing I scored a 490. 1 bullseye off 500. Ill get it buy saturday. ummm or maybe I'll blow it and get a 300. :roll:

In that case show your dad or mom my post. Have them do the upgrades. Tell them youll do better in school. :wink:

Sorry about this reply, but,

Im just not used to talking to under aged people about firearms. It just dont feel right to me. unless they are family or in a class room.

i like shooting, too. a good day is made even better if a person can get some shooting in. glad to see a young lady taking interest.

I'm the complete opposite of you. I'm a really big Glock fan, I have a G22 and a G27 both 40 S&W. Until lately I have never really cared to much for the 1911's. But right now I have the 1911 bug so bad I just can't explain it. I think I'm going to get a Springfield 1911-A1 of some sort. I have no plans of replacing my Glock's with 1911's, but I really have to get a 1911 or two!

I'm going to get a 45 ACP first. I just don't know which model I want, sometimes I think I'd like the "GI .45 1911-A1" for plinking and then other times I think I'd rather have a "Custom Loaded FULL-SIZE 1911-A1" for a carry pistol. I like the "Tactical Combat Black Stainless Steel #PX9154L", "Stainless # PX9154L" and the "Service Model 5" Lightweight, Bi-Tone #PX9104L". Maybe I'll get a 9mm down the road!

I that is my newest Springfield. If you get that I know with out a doubt you will love it to death! It is rock solid, will eat any ammo you put though it and keep groups pretty much the same no matter the ammo.

As far as the price vs. what you are getting, it blows the GI out of the water. I also own the other model you are looking at and It is about the same price as the "Combat". It is a little more picky about the ammo I feed it, but not bad, not bad at all. It also comes with the "AMBO" safety. Where the "Combat" does not. Wood grips too. These two pistols also have beaver tail, night sights, ajust. trigger pull for pound and over travel and front slide grip over the "GI" model. You are getting a lot more for your buck IMHO.

Also IMHO, stay away from the 9MM, .38 Super and .22LR 1911s. These things were made to eat .45s nothing else. I feel you would not be has happy with them in any thing but .45. That being sad, I would also stay away from springfield new micro 1911 in .45 GAP. .

I would have the "ambidextrous" safety installed on mine if I do get the "Combat" model! Its still a toss-up between the "Combat" and the "Stainless" with the "Bi-Tone" being my last choice.

I haven't really heard any bad things about a 1911 in 9mm and 38 Super. Have you had bad luck with them?

Okay, I guess I was being a little bias when I said that. Here are some things I do not like about them though.

Look at the Price on that! That is a big price for what you are getting. At lest to me it is. I mean look at it, sure it is pretty. I'll give it that. But damn, only 1 mag.! Come on most come with to. Fixed sights, old style sights, hell there not even night sights. No beaver tail.

You know, I do not need ajust. sights on all my guns, to have them on a few is nice. But, night sights are a must with me.

I feel all you are buy with that gun is .38 super and Flashy looks and flashy looks dont do it for me. I buy shooters.

Now as far as the .22LR 1911s. I know that most .22LR 1911s have conversion kits on them, so you dont lose the .45. You can always just switch back and forth. BUT!, most of the kits are 250-350 dollars. For that money you can get a great MKII or MKIII or a number of other great .22LR base handguns. Give or take a few bucks. You can get a .22LR model gun that was built around the .22LR not built upon the .45ACP. And in MHO thous making it a better shooter then a converted 1911.

As far as the .45 GAP. I do not think that round is going to "stand the test of time". I just dont want to see people waste there money.

As far as the 9MM. If I was going to get a 1911 in anything but .45ACP it would be a 9mm. 9mm is great for cheep ammo, plinking, fps and protection/home invasion.

All this is just personal thoughs.

Yeah, I would say it works just as good as the .45ACP. I have shot a few springfields in 9MM and they worked great. No kick once so ever in that heavy of a handgun in 9MM. But, from the ones I/my friends have shot worked out great.

Also something that totally slipped my mind yesterday when I posted. Have you ever looked into 1911s in 10MM? Truth be told that is a real work horse combo there.

Well, I think the 9MM range that you are in now is fine. A lot of full grown men do not want any thing more then 9MM and learn to use the round real well. Do to your "age+arm control+hand/palm size" I would not look into any thing like .45ACP/GAP, 10MM, or even .357SIG.

If I was you I would do one of two things.

1) If you are not ready for a 9MM, because of control and want less recoil a .380 Glock would be great for you.

2) Get a little .22LR for a while and put the Glock on the side. That will teach you proper sighting and hand/eye control and get you used to the feel of a handgun.

But, as far as 9mm. Glock makes tons of great 9mm. The 17, 19 and 34 are awesome 9mms in Glock, just to name a few.

Dont be worried about the bigger is better crap. It is not! You will just be making bad habits by trying to see how far you can push a bigger round. You have plenty of time to grow into a .45ACP, or even .50AE. :grin:

Okay thanks! Im already really good with the whole hand/eye coordination. Out of about 20 shots at an orange sticker I only missed about 3 times. I can already out shoot my Dad. :blaster:
