Well, I finally got around to fixing the chamber on my Savage 112 BVSS. From the factory the chamber was crooked, and the throat was off center as well as way too big. (.226"). I cut 3/4 inch off the back end of the barrel, indicated to bore in with a gauge pin, rounded out what was left of the chamber with a boring bar, and recut a Ackley Improved chamber. Took it to the range last night with some S&B 55gr. FMJ ammo to fireform cases. In this rifle this used to be 4-6MOA ammo. This time it started out at about 3 MOA, after a box of it was downrange it was holding 3/4 MOA. Quite an improvement, now I can't wait to load up some Matchkings and see what this thing will really do! Anybody else out there playing with a .223 AI? Any favorite loads for a fast twist (1:9) barrel? It used to be best with 69 gr. bullets, holding 1/2 MOA - can't wait to see some little bugholes out at 200M and beyond!
