Welcome to GBO :D

Sorry I can't answer your question directly. But you can get the info you seek "straight from the horses mouth" so to speak.

Marlin Services
P.O. Box 248
North Haven, CT 06473

phone; 800-544-8892

They will send you an Owners Manual and answer your questions. Be patient as that number stays busy.

Congratulations on your new rifle. Enjoy it.

Three reasons to not shoot hyper-velocity ammo in your M60:
1)  Light aluminum receiver
2)  Fairly light recoil spring
3)  Nylon recoil buffer (easily broken)

I know people who have shot it, but I've seen several cracked buffers too.

I save the hot stuff for my bolt rifles.

I had one and big dog is right I shot the hypers(stingers) and the buffer started to shatter(little white pieces of plastic that shattered{where did that come from}).then the spring started to get weak(action started to get sloppy),and it didn't take very long. The thing is I had an older one that this didn't happen to,it got stolen bought another,in a few months the new one  was trash.Since then I'v bougt two bolts, one lever, and a new auto and none of them will shot stingers.I now use velocitors in one bolt for my hyper stuff.

I don't even shoot that stuff in my BL-22.  I would only shoot it in a bolt action rifle.

Thanks for the Marlin Services information. They sent a manual and in big red letters DO NOT USE HYPER VELOCITY AMMUNITION. Went turkey hunting in Kentucky this past week and was invited back for a spring squirrel hunt in june. Purchasing a marlin 981T. I like the idea of being able to shoot S, L, LR. Thanks again. Oh, almost forgot. 1 turkey, 8 1/2" beard, 1 1/8" spurs, 19 lbs. and the squirrels i saw will eat the the ones we have in FL. for breakfast.

Hey Sav93 I have one of those 981T how do you like your. Mine like to eat 22short. At 25yds the short beats the 22long rifle as far as accuracy goes.

Hi Doe, My 981 is a real shooter. topped it off with a BSA Sweet 17 scope. Shoots cloverleaf groups at 50 yds using the PMC Zappers. Also likes the CCI long and CB Short. The zappres did a number on the squirrels in Kentucky in June. Using the target dial (and a lot of ammo) i figured out a system to shoot same size groups from 10 yds to 50 yds using the three different rounds. Next on the list  will be a 917V. good shootin
