Remington 700 vs Tikka T-3

Ok...with the help of several members here, I was able to locate a 700 ADL Deluxe with wood (walnut) stock....in a .270 caliber.....( they only made the ADL Deluxe in a 30.06 and the .270 with walnut and a 24" barrel).  Now my problem is, I am hearing so many good things about the Tikka T-3 Hunter.....I am a bit undecided.   I have an ADL already , but this one was for my son.  He currently shoots a single shot .243, and is ready for a bit more gun.  I am open to comparisons from those who have shot both.  I am aware of the pro's and cons...and I also know the ADL is a bit less gun that the Tikka......should probably compare the new CDL or Mountain rifle to it.   But anyway....I need some help.

For an unbiased opinion you should have posted this on the Bolt Action forum.  That way you would get a better response.  Lawdog

I bought a new rifle a couple months ago. I looked at a Tikka Varmint and a Remington LVSF, both in 22-250. There was way too much plastic in the Tikka for my tastes.  I bought the Remington LVSF and have no regrets at all. As far as the fit and finish of the two rifles, there was no comparison here either. MI VHNTR

well your post really hits home for me. For almost twenty years my only big game rifle was a 1983 model 700 adl in 7mm-mag. It had a smooth action, shot well and is still my go-to gun for Mn. whitetail. This gun has a lot of history. Anyway I needed a ss/syn for a trip to Ak. I got a remy 700 bdl/ss in 300 um .It was a far cry from my old adl, shot ok but rough action and poor detailing.Sold it.  Enter my first tikka a 7mm mag, ss/syn a whole different world smooth action, incredible trigger, a pound lighter, cheaper and a detachable clip plus it shot awesome. I then got my son his first centerfire, another t-3 ss/syn in 7mm-08. He shoots it well. mild recoil, light so he can hold it up for a while and he loves having the clip. Then I came by a t-3 hunter in .270 and picked that one up too. So in the end I say a strong vote for the tikka, much more for your money. After having one of these, it's hard to look towards anything else short of a sako.

you can make the Rem 700 as nice as a tikka but it usually takes a bit of work.  Tikka has a better trigger, extracter, generally better barrel, and is lighter.  I also like the detachable magazine.  I have a t3 in 338 WM and its a great shooter.  Just over 7lbs in a full size 338, nice to carry but kicked like a mule.  I now have the limbsaver recoil pad and a muzzle break, kicks about like an average 30.06.   Nice rifles, probably the best right out of the box.

Lawdog is right on this one. If you didn't post this same question on the B.A.R. forum please do now.

But my opinion, I really can't choose. I've only read things about the Tikka and from what I've read it's a REAL nice gun. A lot of modern features; both cosmetic and mechanical. I would go with Remington only because of my experience with them and the fact that they are made in the USA...Tikka is made along with Sako in the Netherlands (or Sweden or wherever? :? ).

It's all a matter of what your tastes are in the end. Hold each gun. See if you can shoot before buying. Make it your own opinion...good luck on the decision!!  :D

I thank you for your direction....but one question.....the reply about the Tikka being less expensive??  hat should I expect to pay for a Tikka T-3 Hunter in wood and blued???   Long action??

Here's a buyer website

On there they list the Tikka's and their retail price. Then you can judge against Remington. I wouldn't say that I wouldn't buy one...but it would be a touch choice over a 700 IMO.  :D

when buying a 270 wsm I looked at the rem, t3, and rugers. Liked the remxcr but didn't think I needed a $250 doller rust system on a stainless gun.  I did want stainless and that was my only rem. choice. Looked at the t3 and really liked the action, very smooth. I hated the stock, it felt cheap and just didn't fit me. selttled on the ruger lam with ss.

Someone sent a link to Auction Arms.....Tikka , New in box, wood and blued in a .270 Win for 539.00.   The  Remington CDL is around that I believe........so I would say this is a good price?  What say yall  ???

IMO, if the price was the same between a Tikka and a Remington I'd GET BOTH!!! 8)

No, seriously, I'd probably get Remington. Great gun, great company that makes them. But that's my :money:. I'm not you, and I think we all want you to do what is best for you. Judge it on your own personal experience with Remington (if any) and choose. I don't think you'll be dissatisfied either way. Take care and good luck!  :D

Thanks Saxman...

I have had nothing but great experiences with the Remington I have....shotgun (870) , has been mine since I was 13....(31 years ago)...so you could say i like them ....just wanting the best for my son..and I know both are great guns.......thanks for the input....
I just keep hearing from people who own, and from so many on the post how good the Tikka performs.....perhaps I should buy both .....

Thanks for the "alternate" solution !!!!!

I faced the same decision when looking for a new bolt action in .223.  I looked hard at the T-3 Lite in blued and stainless.  I already had a Remington 700 BDL in .270 so was familiar with that model, and loved it.  Being an old guy (they didn't even make rifles with plastic/synthetic stocks when I started shooting) and a fan of Jack O'Connor and others of the "old school," I opted for another Remington 700 BDL in .223, and couldn't be happier with it.  After mounting a Leupold 3-9X40 scope on it, and a 15 minute trigger adjustment (and the required safety checks) I took it to the range for a break-in.  It shot 1 M.O.A. right out of the box with 55 grain Remington Express PSP's.  When I compared it to the synthetic-stocked Tikka, my choice was easy.

Well, it has been almost two years since I had that "debate" with myself, and the help of a few fine folks in here....I opted, with the help of my son, to just stay with his current .243, util he knows exactly what he wants.......since then , he has taken two more Texas white-tails..and a Missouri White-tail with that same .243......( H&R Handi synthetic ) .......and this year , we both got CZ 527's in a .204 caliber ....found a local dealer who wanted to find a home for them around Christmas....and the Remington folks did not offer a .204.......( ok SPS stainless for 600 bucks ..NO THANKS)...and the VLS for about 800 ......the CZ was around 465.00   Walnut , blued , bull barrel varmint......I got lucky, very nice stock....my sons was even better....so the bolt action debate will have to wait until he is ready ......he's 15 now so he may buy it himself.......haha....maybe he will decide the .243 will be all he ever needs......until next time
