445 Super Mag

I would like some feedback on the .445 Super Mag. Thinking about useing it for Whitetail?? Any thoughts out there?

This is sort of “back door” to your question. I currently load for a .41 caliber wildcat based on the .445Super. It is the Reeder .41GNR#2 which is a full length .445Super necked to .41. I have this round chambered in a 14 inch Reeder Custom Guns Contender. I use the same load data for same weight bullets. Currently that is a 265g cast from CPBT or BearTooth. I have a copy of the current T/C Contender load book that if I recall has two pages of load data for the .445Super I can scan that and send it to you if you like. Your .445Super Contender is a great gun for all our deer including moose and in the hands of a cool gunner will work well on bears too.

liked it so well, in fact, i got 3 of them. 12" VV with a 4x Burris, 14" SS custom shop with a brake (4x Leupold on that one), and a 20" Bull Barrel for my carbine. All have 3 ring mounts of various styles. I highly recommend at least 3 rings. The 6 hole base on my VV also makes me feel a bit more secure. I use a T'SOB base on it w/ 3 rings.

I have knocked the crosshairs out of a Burris 3-9 Comapct scope on the carbine, which they fixed for free. I also tore up a Tasco worldclass 3x pistol scope on my unported 10" .445 i used to have. Sent the scope back to tasco & they replaced it for free.

Recoil is quite vigorous. So is muzzle blast. you wont want to "plink" with these all day if you shoot max loads. If you order one from the Custom shop, get a brake on it. My 14" w/ brake is MUCH more pleasant to shoot than the 12" Virgin Valley that is not ported/compensated.

Used the carbine to take 1 deer..a 240 grain Hornady XTP shot through both front shoulders. For a hunting gun, which you are not going to plink with much, its great.

I have one in the old style contender what a handfull had to put pacmar grips and forend to tame it down now its a hand guners dream. I like the orignal sights in flat black with a hunter 15" barrel.  My most effective bullet is a 300gr. siera flat point. Acuracy is excellent in most all bullet weights but with 185 and 200 gr I have had bullet seperation from its core. The big 300 gr will walk right through a deer leaving a nice big exit hole.  I practice with the 44 so I don't have to take the heavy recoil all the time 240's in 44 seem to shoot the same as the 300's in the 445 cal. Hope this helps.  This is my gun of all seasonsl with a 222 rem for varmit, 445 for deer and bear, and 22 long rifle to just plink with.
