I am happy for you. I hope you like it. I also hope it shoots good for you.

I am sorry, but, I have to say it. I second your dads knowledge of handguns, it is not a bad thing. Some people even old people/parents just really dont know about handguns.

My point: You said you shot a Glock 26 only a few days ago. A Glock 26 is a smaller frame 3" inch bll 9mm. Here are the SPECS.

http://www.glock.com/g26.htm

A Glock 21 is a HUGH frame 5" inch bll .45 acp. It is kinda big in my hands and my second pick of gun is a Desert Eagle. Here are the SPECS.

http://www.glock.com/g21.htm

That is a total difference. Day and Night. I just dont feel you have the hand size or arm control to handel that type of gun. I do not feel that with one time out with a Glock 26 you can use a gun like the GLOCK 21 to its full capabilatys.

I know it is true that you can grow into it, but, I also feel you will pick up bad habits on the way. Bigger is not better. Not for 13 year old kids that are beginner handgunners.

Not so be a A&& hole but this is NOT MHO. I have been on a range since I was 8 years old and in that time I have seen MANY people take wrong turns just to get a "BIG OLD 45". Even full grown men make that mistake. And I KNOW it is lack of knowing that make parents get there kids the same guns. Hell my only gun from the age of 8 to the age of 16 was a .22lr. Although I shot other guns in that time, once or twice, I stuck it out with that. Yes, in that time I could have went bigger. But, I got the tecnic of shooting down first and moved up slowly to were I am now. At 14 I was in the "One hold club". 10 rounds though the center of a target at 79 feet. With a .22LR. To this day that is still my strongest shooting CAL.

I just dont see where younger people need that type of stopping power. You are 8 years from CCW and .45 Glock is no "Game Hunter". Your not going to be worried about home invasion or personal on the street protection. You are going to be punching holes in paper and learning to shoot. Who cares if there .22 of and inch holes or .45 of an inch holes.

Im really not tryn to be a bad guy and I am happy for you, even if I dont show it. But, since I can remember guns have been my true love. It is something I take for real, maybe to for real. I dont know.  :?

                                 Hope it works out.

I understand your point completely. And I dont think your being the "bad guy". But actually the 26 is to small for my hand, and the 21 is a better fit. And I have been shooting for a while, Im just a first time Glock user.

There is no doubt in my mind that the grip on a Glock 26 is small. Infact it is real small.

If Im not mistaken you can get a Glock 17 MAG. for 24 dollars new and about 10 or 12 dollars used. Then for about 8 more dollars you can get a grip extension that you slide over the Glock 17 mag to make it a full size grip.

I really dont like it, it is a little to sloppy for me. Plus it is smooth and takes away from grip a little. Some people use them and like them a lot though.

I just got back in from shooting. I struggled at first, but then I got much much better, once I got the grip down pat and my aiming. I was using the little orange stickers and could hit it or the area around it. I was so proud of myself! But my hand is sore

here is my take on it-  congratulations!   enjoy that gun, shoot as often as you can.   the 45 is a great cartridge and can be loaded either way to tailor it to the shooter/purpose.
practice, practice, practice.  usually, i will shoot a half box at a time.  then take a break.   i can do things with my 45 that folks wouldnt believe if they didnt see it.   one of my favorite calibers.  there is a reason it has been so popular for so long.

   happy shooting.

The .50AE is a great round too. At this rate maybe she can shoot one next week. Yeah, by the first of May she will be into the .454 casull and right on her way to the .500MAG.

Why not? Just practice.    :-D  :-D lol :-D  :-D

once upon a time a fellow was thinking on learning how to ride a motorcycle.  some "knowlegable" folks with good intentions suggested he get a small motorcycle and learn on that; then later move up to a big bike.
upon learning of the advise, guy's old man (a biker from way back) pulled his boy aside and spoke these words  ...  "BULL****!  learn what your going to ride. "    amazingly, the boy listened to his pops (something maybe the boy should have done more of in his life).   and the boy lived very happily ever after.
now i am going to tell you a story about my buddies daughter.  she is in seventh grade and i believe is thirteen.  she is an average girl for her age.  she stands shoulder to shoulder with us and shoots her dads 44 mag smith and wesson effectively with full house loads.   i am not talking hitting cans at 50 yards,  but she can hit a paper plate at 25 quite well.   now after a half box she starts getting a bit wild- but so do i.    she does well with a caliber that makes a 45 auto look anemic (she also wants a glock  .  her dad is so proud of her.
so my question to "house" is ...  without knowing this girl at all, having only met her online,  where do you get off discouraging her?    for all you know, she could be the next olympic gold metalist.  a 45 auto doesnt kick for squat, so even comparing it to the 50ae, 454, or 500 is ludicrous.

hey countrygirl,  you nevermind the naysayers,  go out and enjoy shooting and spending time with your dad.   happiness is a warm barrel.

Okay, so I went a bit over board. I understand I went from one extreme to another.

Very true. You make good points and I dont second guess your knownings.

Let me tell you some of the reasons I act like I do when it comes to stuff like were talking about. It is truly not to be a jerk or rain on her good times. But, when I was about 11 I think. I was out shooting small game with my .22lr. My dad was not there I was out with his good friend looking for some rabbits. Now I knew this friend of my dads my hole life and trusted him. I looked up to him. I wanted to shoot like him when I got older. Come to think of it he was not all that great of a shooter. But, hell, I was a 11 year old boy I didnt know.

Anyhow at this point I had only shot a .22lr nothing else. Well while out in the field on our way back he pulled a .44mag 2"inch bbl rev. out of his pocket. I was like wow what a cool gun. I had never shot a rev. at that time. He ask me if I wanted to shoot it. He told me it was a .22lr, just a different make of gun. I was like HECK YA!

So he showed me how to use it and I pulled that hammer back and gave it a pull. That SOB bit my hand so hard I dropped the gun on the ground, my ears were ringing like hell and I started to cry. I was so embarest that I looked so stupid. All my dads friend could do was laugh, he thought that was the most funny thing he ever seen.

I put my guns down for a while after that. And I was only an 11 year old kid. I look back on it now and yeah maybe its a little funny. I dont know.

But after that I was real shaky for a while even with my old .22lr.

Now I know that this does not even match her story or what you are trying to say. But, that might be a little why I am the way I am.

BTW myronman3. You have never seen any one make a CAL. mistake when buying a pistol? I know I have seen a few people that probably should shot a little smaller.

That is very important. Good shooting or bad shooting.I don't know where I'de be today if not for tons of fun hours spent with my dad.

The Glock 21 is a great weapon. I used to carry one on duty when I was a deputy sheriff in Texas. The department I work for in Kansas issues the Sig P220. As long as you are happy with the weapon and shoot it well is all that matters.

:cb2: Way to go CountryGirl! The G21 is my wife's favorite gun to shoot. She's just 5'5" with small hands, and it's no problem for her. I also have the Hogue rubber slip on grips on it. It even makes the grips slightly larger, but easier to handle. She says she likes the white outline sights and the big holes it makes. (She don't see as well as she used to!) She carries a .357, so the recoil of a .45 didn't bother her at all. You're gonna love it!
