I bought NEW .270 remington brass. I am using federal primers and they slip in too easy with my RCBS hand priming tool. I know its not the primers because I used them in other brass and its ok. How loose is too loose? I know loose pockets are not good. Has anyone ever come across this?

I have had this happen in the past with some lots of brass. I don't know what is too loose, but if they seem to slide in with no resistance I'm not comfortable with them either.
You may try de-priming them and see if CCIs will fit better.

This is a highly scientific proceedure that I use. If I feel the primer has slipped into the pocket too easily, I hold the case, primer down, at about a 45deg angle and tap it sharply on the desk top (wooden) a couple of times. If it doesn't back out, then I'm satisfied its safe. Also, after you have fired the rounds, look for black tracings around the primer. The case and primer are seated against the face of the bolt but if the primer is loose, a bit of carbon will seep out between the primer and the case head.

If Federal primers are loose, other brands will fall right out. If you start with brass that has this issue, it will not take many firings to be unuseable. I have a couple pin gauges to check brass with. If a .210" pin wont go in then any primers will stay in. As you get close to .211" the Federals are the only ones that will stay in for me, and then not well.

If it were me I would go to the Remington website...go to "contact us" there is a phone number for the Munitions plant in Arkansas. Call and ask for customer service. They will ask you to send samples...once they get those and decide it is a problem they will either refund your money, replace your brass or give you a credit at Midway/Midsouth etc.
Primer pockets are supposed to be made so the primer is a press fit...the problem will get worse very quickly. Why take the chance.

I have talked to the customer service people at Remington before on other brass issues and they were very helpful and quick.
