H&R BC Rifle Shell Ejector
« on: April 16, 2005, 06:33:12 PM »
I have been ready about many stuck cases in their Handi rifles and also that NEF is changing over to a manual ejection. That is good news as I have never liked automatic ejectors. My question to you guys is, does the H&R BC have the Spring ejector or the Manual ejection? I am hoping to hear manual as I just ordered one and should have it in about a week :-D Thanks-Jack.

Just depends on when H&R runs out of the ejector underlugs, they'll all be extractors eventually. I converted my BC to an extractor, albeit a spring driven extractor. It's not hard to do and stuck cases are not a problem for normal loads after a good chamber polish, the only stuck cases I've had were my own fault for not making sure the chamber was dry, in hundreds of rounds fired in several rifles, including the infamous .223 which is notorious for sticking brass.

Oh man, thank you very much. I have always disliked Auto Ejectors. I don`t like cases flying around, especially in my face :) I prefer as much manual work with my firearms as possible. I hope they ran out and mine is manual, but I dought it, but maybe. Jack.

Dear Slayer:
Auto ejectors can be very helpful when a quick second shot is necessary. Especially for dangerous game like you and I deal with here in Western Pa. Some of them man eatin groundhogs are downright ferocious!

I hunt both deer and antelope with my Handis, where I like the auto ejector.

You've ran into some of them too??  We got the King Whistlepig himself living 19miles south of me.  Comes out once a year to terrorize us with threats of 6 more weeks of winter.

Dang evil, mean and wicked beasts.

"Avoid The Killer Woodchuck" :)  Actually, as long as the auto ejector works as it should, I won`t be too worried, but the first stuck case, I am going to wish I had waited until H&R switches over to the manual ejector   I hope my new BC comes with the manual ejector, I will know in 1 week!! Thanks-Jack.

I don't think you'll have any problem in either case. I've never heard of anyone have a stuck case with a 45-70. Too much body taper. And not many people can tolerate the real high pressure loads.

The only cases I've experienced sticking in my NEF/H&R or any other rifle were rimless rounds.  Never yet to have a rimmed round stick.  With the 45-70, I do think you'll kill yourself with the recoil before you develope enough case pressure to expand the case enuff to stick.
