Lead pot -
  It's more than just a little pop-gun.

Pictures of it firing on the Blackpowder cannon and mortar forum:

103 lbs of 4140 steel that throws a 7.5 lb slug of concrete over 350 meters.

Many thanks.  It's a boyhood dream come true.  For those who're following their dreams - it ranks right up there with throwing snowballs in August (which IS everything it's cracked up to be)!

have you thought about making a real projectile for it??????????

what is the boar dia ????????????

i emagin the concreat is allot cheaper and easier to get but i would worry about it breaking up in the boar and causing a real big explosion on the lonching pad.   i have casted lead balls up to 3 inches using sand casting boxes with great sucess for other cannon shooters i know here in oklahoma.   i have often thought if some one made shells / bullets for these thing they could sell them but just never had the time to look into it.

have fun and good shooting

Yo Butch -
Yes, I've had some zinc cannon balls cast - but all were too large and when casting zinc that large shrinkage is irregular.  I WILL make some on the lathe from CRS this summer.  (Have to wire the shop, hook up the 3phase converter etc. beforehand.)

Almost no problems with concrete filled PVC pipe - the concrete doesn't compress and hence is dimensionally stable when firing while the PVC pipe is precise and fits the bore VERY well (4.550 bore with 4.500 boolet).  The only problems are that one has to wipe the bore after each or every third shot to limit fouling buildup and once the concrete hadn't set thoroghly so it slid out of the PVC pipe - both were lanuched).

I spent 6 months at Ft Sill - Field Arty OCS in '72.  Fun time shooting 105's and 155's.
