Shaving lead on my on my Tracker 970
« on: April 17, 2005, 08:39:21 PM »
I have a Taurus Tracker 970 in 22 LR.  No matter what load I am using each round get shaved.  I am finding huge amounts of lead all over the cylinder.  What can I do?

I think you either need to send it back to Tarus or find a good local revolver smith and get the cylinder properly alined with the barrel. Shaving lead can be a pretty serious safety issue to anyone standing next to you on the firing line and if it gets worse more serious to you and others. So if it were mine I'd be looking to get it properly adjusted and I'd start with Tarus first to see if they'd do it. I would expect them to do it under their warranty or I'd not buy any more of their products, of course that assuming you have'nt dropped it out of a moving vehicle or somthing similar that would have caused the problem. But if it's a simple matter of poor fitting and alingment I'd be looking to Tarus. CH

My dad and I have a few Taurus, a Raging Bull and a Ultra Lite. We have never had any problams with them. But, I had a Rossi .357 Mag. a little while back and right out of the box it shaved lead. From the first rounds I put thought it. Rossi did take it back. The second one did the same thing. And the third one the fireing pine broke. At that point I got my money back.

But Rossi and Taurus warrenty is the same. Them or the shop you got it from will take it back.

If you can try and make the gun shop fix or replace it. I have seen turaus take up to 6 months to get a gun back to the person who sent it in.

I am going to try Taurus first and see what happens from there.   I just can't believe the amount of lead this sucker spits out.  My best accurate day was terrible, it is all over the place.  I have a six inch group at 25 yard with a six inch bull.  I even have a scope on it. A Simmons 2-6X32.

I totaly understand. When them puppys get to shaving, shots go every were and you face gets the rest.

Dont let it get you down. There good guns and can be great shooters. I just think that there QC falls asleep some times on the job.

Good luck I hope it works out in the best for you .
