Idaho's most infamous outlaw, Claude Dallas, killed two state officers in a remote desert 24 years ago in a crime that brought him notoriety as both a callous criminal and a modern-day mountain man at odds with the government.

If memory serves me right, they were trying to arrest him for poaching, killing out of season, or some such thing. Game violations. He broke the law, he killed 2 officers rather than do his time for game violations. He should not have lived. POWDERMAN.  :x  :x  :x  :x  :x  :x

TM7. In most cases, law abiding citizens rarely feel threatened by law enforcement personnel. Had he not been breaking the law they would not have been there. He made his own reputation and they knew it well.
As to living off the land and being exempt from mans laws? I say NO. Game laws are meant to preserve a good supply of meat for all. If everyone killed indiscriminitely, even for food, and killing any time of the year in any quantity they felt like, I believe the game population would be severely curtailed, maybe even decimated. Dallas put himself in the position he was in. I see no reason for him to be alive, let alone out of jail. POWDERMAN.  :?  :?  :?  :?  :?  :?

I'm with Powderman on this one. Claude Dallas was not a hunter he was a poacher and he bragged about it all over the place. As a human being Dallas was, is, and will always be a POS. The only reason they couldn't exicute him was because they couldn't prove pre-meditation. Even though he bragged he'd kill any gamewarden who tried to arrest him, proir to this incident. Feeding this POS for 22 years and letting him go is a slap in the face to humanity.

My understanding of the case is that the game wardens were bullies, and and that they used excessive force to the point that Mr. Dallas was left no choice but to defend his own life.

I believe that those facts came out at trial, but that the additional fact that after he defended himself he then made sure that they were dead was what put him in prison.

Dallas was the victim, but he went too far.

There are a lot of law enforcers that are nothing but bullies with badges, and ultimately, when their own illegal behaviour causes bad things to happen, they get what they deserve.

I'm pretty sure that's what happened here.

They got what they deserved, and so did Dallas.

.
They may talk of a "New Order" in the  world, but what they have in mind is only a revival of the oldest and worst tyranny.   No liberty, no religion, no hope.   It is an unholy alliance of power and pelf to dominate and to enslave the human race.

FWEIDNER. I understand that these 2 may have been bullies, but they did not deserve to die. The fact is, if Dallas were not an habitual lawbreaker and braggart, he would never have met those 2 men. POWDERMAN.  :D  :D

Dallas is the only man alive who knows exactly what happened that day, and as a result, his is the only valid opinion on that count.

He backed it up and has paid the price, and whether they deserved to die or not, that's what they got.

In the other accounts i've read on the web, Dallas had a friend there with him when this happened. He was tried by a jury of his piers and did his time. I for one would like to read the full court room dialog, alot of supposition and questions. I have seen for myself what some law enforcement officers will do, some of it is totally illegal!
