New grips for S&W Mdl 49 .38 Spl.
« on: April 18, 2005, 06:14:54 AM »
I have an all steel Mdl 49 2" S&W 5 shot.38 Spl. revolver with a hammer shroud.  I purchased it, primarily for my wife,  from a member of a law enforcement agency with a new policy of "no backup guns".  It has had an action and trigger job.  Shoots "minute of assailant" groups at 25 yds with +P's (on a limited basis).  It came with two holsters of good quality.  It wears a set of Pachmeyer rubber grips.  The previous owner "pitched" the stock grips.

I would like to obtain a set of wood grips, with about the same configuration as the Pachmeyers, or a little larger, without checkering.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to stock retail replacements or of a reasonable custom grip maker?

Thanks, in advance
Happy Trails!

Hey Roundup,

Try Hogue at: http://www.getgrip.com

or,  Herrett's.  Sorry, I don't have the website.  Here's an interesting article you may enjoy,  http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0BTT/is_152_25/ai_72293260

My 49 is a favorite. grips are a personal thing so it's hard to recommend one manufacturer.  I've had excellent results  with a variaty of styles on ebay. Just search "Smith J grips"

consider laser grips?

Have you considered CTC Laser grips?  If you are using that gun for carry you might try them out.  I find I can shoot my snubby much better with them and they fit my hand well. Not cheap but I think Midway has some on sale this month.
