336 sights on a 1895?
« on: April 18, 2005, 09:21:25 AM »
I am looking into getting a new sight setup for my 1895G and like the idea of a Williams rear peep and a firesight front.   In their catalog they list item number 70018 for a Marlin 336 but make no mention of it fitting other models.  So, do you guys know if they will they fit my 1895G?  Their catalog can be found at www.williamsgunsight.com

Thanks for your help!

The 70018 with the WGRS rear sight and Firesight front sight fits the Marlin 1895G.  You should call them to make sure you get a front sight of the correct height.  They will send that package with various front sight heights.  This made a difference in my case where I put the package on a 1975-vintage 1895 with the front sight dovetail.  You can measure the height of your front sight and they will match it.
We learn something new everyday whether we want to or not.

The receiver hole spacing is the same for 336 and 1895 - so yes, the receiver (peep) wil fit. Something to remember, the adjustment range on the WRGS peep is 0.100". If your front sight is too short, you will run out of adjustment room. If it is too tall, you can shim the peep. Hopefully the folks at Williams can send you the correct front sight height first time. One more thing, you may find the stainless cutout hood used for the stainless Marlin 60's to be less obtrusive to shoot with than the blued hood. Stainless seems to dissappear to my eyes.
