It appears that Remington is no longer offering the 405g .458" bullet as a component anymore....They still show it in loaded ammo, though....Midway shows it out of stock, backorder with an expected arrival date of 4/25....there's a thread on its demise on the Marlin Owners board....

I think Remington is producing the 300 grain instead. I didn't see any of
the 405 gr. at the local outfitters either. That was this past Saturday(16)

That kinda sucks!! I like that big old 405 gr the best, more buffalo bullet like if you know what I meen  What is a good alternative in 400 + grains for the .45/70? All lead or jacketed. Thanks-Jack.

Quick:
Thanks for the tip on the Remington 405s, just ordered 500 just in case they get hard to find. Also, have you had any experience with the Cast Performance 405s? Do you know how those would shoot in these micro-groove barrels?

I'm shooting them in the 45-120 BC, they shoot excellent!! 1½" groups at 100yds with the Williams FP sight, the 460gr shoot that good, too.

Hmmmmmm...maybe I should go and stock up on them...I wonder what about 1000 of them would go for on e-bay in a couple years :)

Dang!A couple of weeks ago a friend gave me two brand new boxes of Remington 405's in the green box that he had gotten in a box of stuff at an auction.Talk about luck.
I loaded and shot some of the cast 405's.They do good.
The more I listen,the more I hear....and vice versa.

Blue Star Cartridge and Brass is about 50 miles from the Remington factory and should still have some. Nice folks, too. www.blue-star-inc.com

MidSouth Shooters Supply still has them in 100 count boxes. Sold out of 1000 count. I just ordered 200 spares for my pet Enfield  in .450 Marlin.

I emailed Remingtons customer service on this and here is the response I got back.

"Thank you for visiting Remington Country! We certainly appreciate you taking the time to write in with your question. We do not manufacture the bullets for reloading, only the brass.

Should you have additional questions, please feel free to contact our Consumer Services Department at 800-243-9700, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, EST, Monday through Friday."

Hmmmm. Last time I checked, Remington bullets were available for most any cartridge you wanted to reload.

That Blue Star price of $76 per 500 isn't a deal at all when Cabelas sells em for $63!!
