I have come across some folks who are trying to get their reciever plans and modified bolt approved by the ATF. Their design would produce a true semi-auto Sten gun that could not be converted to full-auto.

I understand some others have been making semi-auto Stens for a while - has anyone here created a semi-auto (ATF approved) Sten?

PATM41 - thanks for the additional link. Has anyone ever built one of these kits or fired one of the semi-auto conversions?

I've never tried the kits here in the states.
But I've handled at least 4 or 5 in South Africa, and had them on hand, of course that was long ago.
I could write an entire book on the never ending subject of just how filthy lousy and stinking they are.
I had a mind to tear one apart and make an artists metal sculpture from it.
Bear in mind, these were the real full-autos-not kits or put together.
Even with that they were not worth the cleaner used on them.
I had more jams, than you could have in your own cannery.
But, with that said, they are better to have than a pocket knife when in a fix, from what I've heard. I never had to use them seriously.
Firing accurately is not gonna happen.
You might have a closed bolt fire, with the semi though-I heard they use closed bolts for them.
Might be a little better.
All said though, they might be REAL fun in a modern semi.
Oh well.

All the Stens I've ever used had been real klunkers, but at least they sprayed well enough to clean out a room at close quarters. Not much in the way of accuracy but that was due mainly to the weight and throw of that heavier than all get out bolt. The notion of starting low and to the left and trying to control the recoil took a lot of practice. It was almost not possible to hit a 25m silhouette target with an aimed shot - you had to start low and to the left and your line of fire would cross the target, usually on the way up. Great thing about the Sten design is its 'carry-ability' sling a short loop strap over your shoulder with the mag across your stomach, button up your jacket and there ya are. If it works. Mikey.

a majority of sten problems are mag related than anything else...
Keep in mind they were never ment to be a outstanding gun to start with.
they were ment to be disposable ,, after all they only cost $ 3.00 to make
