Millett Bases...like 'em or not?
« on: April 20, 2005, 01:28:59 PM »
I just heard something interesting at one of my local Gunshops, i went in looking to get a couple of Contender scope bases, and they were of course out.

I asked what they were stocking, and was told "anything BUT Millett." Of course i had to ask why; i have 4 or 5 Millett bases on my various barrels. I  was told they have had 4 instances of Millett scope bases failing on Contenders/Encores.  They also said that even Thompson Center did not recommend using Millett bases. (This surprised me a bit..)

I personally have had no malfunctions of any kind with Millett; i have both the Weaver style & the Dual Dovetail style on various calibers. Of course , any base can fail if not mounted properly...I always degrease my screws / screw holes with alcohol, and paint a little dab of Loctite on the screws, no matter what brand of base i am using.

Has anyone else heard of any problems with Millett TC bases?

I don't have any Millet Rings on my Contender Barrels only because I had other rings to use with the Bushnell scopes. I put Millets on two NEF rifles and think they are great . I do all my major horizontal adjusting with the Millets and then the finer adjusting with the scope knobs . Never had any problems with the Millets !
