i want a new TC. that much i know.

however when i went looking, i found that my ideal setup may not exist. what i want is a G2 contender rifle in .223 with a barrel for 7mm-08 and aparently you can get an encore in 7mm-08 and a G2 in .223 but neither can use both barrels?

can they switch barrels between models, or am i going to be really ticked off?

I don't think the G2 can handle 7mm-08.

You can get an Encore with both .223 and 7mm-08.

cool then i guess my choice is the encore.

now my only decision is the stock. and the bipod. and the scope. and which other barrels i want. and....

many caliber choices... many more if you go custom

One thing to note... is that the Encore rifle weighs approx 1 1/2 lbs more than the contender. Minor issue if you ask me.

youb guys have any preferences? blued with walnut? blued with composite?

i am not sure what i want because i love the cold steel and warm walnut look but that realtree pattern on the composite is niiiiice. :grin:

also which combination is cheapest? i imagine the conposite and blued.

the only thing i DONT like about the contenders is how damn much those barrels cost. whew, $225 for a BARREL??

my rabbit gun, a winchester 1300, was only $240! lol

any recommendations? i want .223 and 7mm-08...that covers my hunting needs, since i have two .22s already...anything else i need but dont know it yet? lol

Mine's a hunting rifle, so I've got .308 SST and 209x50 SST with a black composite stock... lowest maintenance. Warne mounts and Leupold scopes.

I suppose if I were to buy another barrel it'd be a .223 or a 30.06 but I don't need anything but what I've got right now for now.

I've got the Stainless Steel frame with a stainless 209-50 cal Muzzle loader and SS 22-250 and a blued 25-06....they were not offering the stainless 25-06 at the time I bought my barrel.

Can of worms apparently opened.

If you look at the 'legality' thread there is some confusion/debate as to whether your Encore should start life as a pistol if you ever want to have it in pistol form. The modular nature of the Encore means that a short barrelled rifle can potentially be 'made' and it would be illeagal to configure it that way.

I think the vibe I'm getting, is that it depends on which state you're in whether you should start with the pistol form or not. I'm 99% sure the feds don't care based on what I have read... although some seem to disagree with me... but I choose to interpret the info in their straightforward context. I live in a normal place like Virginia... I won't try to figure out NY, MA, or CA.

It wouldn't be cheaper to start with a pistol... of that I'm sure... unless you want a pistol. I didn't price it out to see which configuration yields the less-expensive frame.

Blue is generally cheaper than SST... that's all I know.

Blue with black composite will be cheapest, then for a little more you can get blue with walnut, then a little more gets you blue with realtree composite, add a little more for stainless with black composite, and then some more will get you stainless with realtree composite. Overall it is about a $100 range from about $490 to $590 for a complete gun.

Call Ed at Ed's TCs at 405-879-0879. Or look on Midsouth's website, they both have similar prices that are as low as you will find.

i went to buds gun shop online and i can get a blued composite .243 for $433 so i think that might be a good place to start...i imagine the .223 would be the same price.
