Shot the New Vaquaro .45!
« on: April 21, 2005, 08:03:39 AM »
Got to shoot one on Monday and I really like it.  The new grip frame is much better and the grips are thinner.  Much better feel than previous Rugers.  Much better balanced.  I like the hammer shape too.  This was a friend's gun and I didn't get a chance to shoot it for groups but it hit what you put the front sight on.  I can see this gun being a real winner!  I'd like one for woods walking and as a backup when hunting.  She would shoot 255 gr wide flat nose cast bullets at 1000 fps forever!  I'll have to get on the list.  Jay's says their list is very long already!  44 Man

Sounds good, I've been wanting one since I helped my father pick out a six gun and for half a second thought I had a colt or colt clone in my hand.  Now if they'd just get rid of the loading port lock out and go to a lock work like the Colts so that you load at half cock it'd be perfect, long as they keep the transfere bar.

I read that Bill Ruger said that if they had invented the "Old Model Conversion" first, there would have been no New Model Ruger.

Yeah, this new one still has no 'half-cock' and loads by just opening the loading gate.  I miss that half-cock, but I understand why this is a safer system.  At least now the chambers line up with the loading gate!  Ranger, I understand they are planning a .44 spl next year.  Yippee!  44 Man
