I bought a well worn .35 today.....microgroove barrel sn 23086xxx..the finish is about half gone on the stock, and the blue is worn.......filthy barrel, with slight rust in the bore about 3 inches back from the crown not a big patch, but an inch or so..... ........I've ran a bore brush through it and it looks like most of the rust is now gone........I'm going to let it sit over night with hoppe's in the bore and give it some attention tomorrow.......might try some JB as well.....

Wasn't there a sticky some where to tell what year this gun was made? I'm thinking 1977?

Paid $150 for the gun and a box of shells..........plans are to get her cleaned up and lubed then take her to the range to see what she'll do!

What do yall think, 3 inches at 100 yards with factory iron sights? That's what I'm hoping for! Oh well, I've spent more for less........don't know why I bought it, always wanted a 35 i guess........seemed like a fair price if it shoots a reasonable group........

I will bet she still shoots good! You are correct 1977 for the date. Accuracy can very depending on the ammo. But you might get 1.5 -3 inches at 100. Keep us up dated on how it shoots.

Cleaned up much better than I thought it would.......bore is now nice and shinny.........this had to be one of the dirtiest guns I've ran across in a long time........weather is bad, rain and high wind for the next few days........hopefully get to the range early next week........

I'm to the point of getting a .35REM too, a 1975 model (serial number 25XXX), but it seems to be an economical modèle cos ther's no plastic cap on the grip, the sights too are not the traditional Buckhorn ?

Got to the range today with the "new" well used .35 336 Marlin........took some 158 grain hollow points that one of the guys loads locally and a box of Remington 200 grain corelots.........

The rifle shot about 12" left! When I drove the front sight back to the left I was about 1/4 out of the front notch........but after "persuading" the front sight I managed a 2" group at 50 yards and a four inch group at 100 yards.......Only shot one 100 yard group as the rain moved in......This was about what I expected out of the factory sights and my old eyes.......

So, Now I'm home.....I put on a williams ghost ring rear sight and am looking at the Williams web sight.......I'd like to put a Fire Sight front sight on to use with the rear ghost ring.........Looks like there are about 8 different heights to use with a Marlin......starting with the 250M up to the 450M..........

Anybody have an idea which one I need for the .35 336?

My marlin doesn't have the front hood........do I need one with the firesight?

Well, the $150 marlin cleaned up better than I expected, and shoots about like I was hoping it would.....The trigger pull is much lighter than I realized and much better than my 1895.........I think the groups would tighten more with a scope but I don't think I'll put one on this rifle until I give the ghost ring a try.....for fast short range woods shots I don't think the .35 needs a scope......My old eyes might...........the rifle handles great.....seems much lighter and better balanced than my 1895 in 45.70 which wears a scope............one thing for certain.......I laugh at the recoil of the little .35 after shooting the big bore...........what a plesant gun to shoot!

Still got to get some dies for the .35 and the .45.70 as well........I think I'll keep it for awhile! What else do you people think I shoud do with the rifle? Maybe refinish the stock? Any ideas?

mine will shoot 1.5 inches at 100 with a peep sight with loads it likes.

Hey.. I think you should sell it to me!!! Can't ever have too many.
I would scope it with a variable scope or a 4 power Widefield Redfield.. Any decent scope will add 15 or 20 minutes to your woods hunting time. My .35 Marlin wears a 3x9 40mm Baush & Lomb Elite scope.
