I am wanting to buy a new atv. Something to play around the house with and in mud. And in hunting season gunna be using it to get over tree, mud, other obstacles. What kind of atv would you suggest?
Thanks,
Frankie

I myself am in the process of looking. I have decided to go with the Yamaha Kodiac 450 4X4. You will be hard pressed to find a negative thing about em. Look up atv reviews on the web.

If you don't need a four wheel drive I would look at the Honda Recon. For the money this machine has great low end power, sporty ride and mechanically it is about bullet proof. If you are buying a new unit and want a four wheel drive look at the Yamaha Bruin. Doesn't have all the bells and whistles of some machines but is very well equipped for the money. It has been receiving good reviews in the atv mags. You need to talk to Graybeard as he has both of these machines and a grandson who rides the Recon. Good luck in your atv hunt.

the Rincon is a good choice for your listed needs. I would take a look at the Artic Cat 250 as well. They ahve em in 4X4 adn 2WD. Kawasaki ahs a 250cc atv I believe they still call the "Bayou" 250.

I have both a Kodiak 4x4 400 and a Honda Recon. Both are great machines. The Recon is much more nimble, plenty fast and easy to load. You can pretty easiily pick up the front end. The Kodiak is harder to steer with 4 wheel drive but at the same time is a go anywhere beast. The Kodiak is also close to 200 lbs more weight and requires more strength to handle well. IMHO you can't go wrong with either one.

I beleive Marc C means the Recon not the Rincon.. The Honda Recon is more than a entry level 2 wheel drive Atv.. The 250 is robust and powerful.. fast enough for all except the super hero kids. Keeps up with my Foreman 450 no problem.. don't let the 2 wd get you down.. goes most anywhere a 4X4 can go with a little hip swinging! This machine is just a blast to drive. I am 200 lbs and it has plenty of go..go.. for me. It will serve you well. My Foreman is like a tank.. The recon is like a fighter jet. I ride the recon as much as the Foreman. My girlfriend stole the Foreman because it has better engine braking. I am not upset,, The Recon is just great.. Great on gas as well.

I'd say it boils down to how much money you want to spend. An entry level 2 wheel drive will run around $3k, and the top of the line 4x4 close to $8k or better with all the goodies.
Either of these will suffice depending on how big the tree or mud hole is.

Well I bought my first atv december 2004. I got the honda Recon 250 and I love it. Even though it is 2 wd it serves me well.
