How would you go about fixing up or 10/22? Where can you find the best prices and deals? What brand?

There are books dedicated to that question and I should get one of them too. I've always wanted one and couldnt justify another gun, or fit another one in my house. I lucked into a trade earlier this year and have my first 10/22 and love it, they can be built completely from aftermarket parts, there are so many manufacturers, I guess theyre the harley-davidson of rimfires. What do you want to do with your gun?

. . . on the net. RimfireCentral.com has some foolishness to wade through but has archived the best how-to's and runs a constant commentary on the latest. Cheap firsts are the bolt buffer upgrade and improving your trigger. Move on to bedding or add/substitute rifle parts and accessories that can add up to $1K or more, all within the capabilities of the kitchen table 'smith.

The 10/22 is probably one of the top 3 most heavily modified guns today (AR-15 types and 1911 types in the running). Parts are available from many sources, even video gunsmithing courses. Good luck but be careful.

Gotta second heading over to www.rimfirecentral.com If it's 10/22 it's there. Lots of knowhow there as well. Check out the gallery and get some ideas. Chances are your questions have been answered there already. Do some searches in the forums. There's quite a few links to supporting retailers on the site. Most prices are about the same. Staffoprds has about the best prices on stocks (Revival) BBl's can run the gamut on price as can trigger upgrades. Look around there, decide what you want and what you need. Go from there.

Building up a 10/22 myself right now. will be using a Whistle Pig bbl, Revival made Yukon stock and proberly a Kidd trigger. This is #3 and not likely to be the last. #4 is already in planning statges. :wink:

These guns are very easy to work on yourself, one factor in their popularity. A good place to start is by adding a Volquartsen (VQ) hammer and adjustable over-travel stop on the trigger. This will lighten the trigger and make it break very crisply. All you need is the hammer, you don't need to get the hammer and sear kit. One of the synthetic buffers makes the gun more pleasant to shoot by quieting the action 'clack'. These mod's will cost under $50. Add a good quality 4X scope and you will go a long way to making your 10/22 a very capable hunter, plinker and casual target rifle.

Clark trigger job, Hogue overmolded stock, EABCO blue 17 HM2 bull barrel, scope of your choice. That is the way mine is configured at this time.

Got my stcok (red/black Yukon from Revival) and bbl and JARD trigger are on order. Only have to buy the gun (reciever/bolt) and a scope now. Planning #4 now. having found about Boyd's new laminate offerings has open a few new doors for my next build.
