S&W Sigma Series Quality?

I am going to buy my first handgun and was thinking about buying the S&M SW9VE. The main reasons are it's similarity to the Glock and the cheap price.

I have heard that this is not a very good gun. Is this true? If so, what makes it bad?

I am thinking about getting a Glock instead but the difference in price is quite significant.

Any other suggestions on a good, inexpensive semi-auto?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

to me s&w are ok. are there better--well if we all fell in love with the same woman it would be a heck of a fistfight--get as good as you can afford--it won't be the last anyway.

Consider a .22

If this is your first hand gun consider a .22 auto like the Ruger Mk 2, Browning Buckmark or similar high quality.  A .22 is the best place to start to learn the basics of handgunning.  A .22 will be the most affordable way to get the practice all beginners need to learn the basics.  When it comes to hand guns one cannot practice too much.  Getting professional instruction is wise too to avoid getting the bad habits that are so easy to fall into otherwise.  I wish I'd done so.  I'm constantly fighting the bad habits I developed on my own and my ability to shoot well suffers considerably as a result.

have had my sigma a while ,probably shot 1000 rounds through it with absolutely no problems--none. it groups around 2 inches at 25 yards ,if i do my part. i like mine and would recommend them

First, there are two versions of the Sigma line. From what I have seen, both styles are very good performers.  The Sigma and the Enhanced Sigma. The Enhanced Sigma has a few more bells and whistles. Check them both out. I feel you can't go wrong with either one. :grin:

A local police department went to the sigmas a few years ago.  Only had them a year and got rid of them.  The thing was, some of them were outstanding. The rest were junk.  This has been a few years ago, maybe the quality control is better now.
