Some Black Beaver
« on: April 24, 2005, 11:45:07 AM »

Never trapped spring bvr in such heat before.  It was 77 degrees.  This check only few otter, few bvr, few rats.  Not much moving, very low water and  bvr were staying put not traveling.  I talked to one other trapper that checked 137 sets and took  THREE bvr.......

Lee,hit 85 where I was in northern MN. I did take 15 the day of that heat and 13 the next day.But it did bring a quick end to my spring trapping.
Took 64 in a hurry ,but never set any new places after the second day.
It was a real let down, something I looked forward to ,done in such short order.

Wacky, new rope-old rope, makes no differance.I depend on my spring beaver catch for a large portion of my income. When wierd weather costs me a major chunk of bill paying power,I am indeed unhappy.
Dan.I would be scared to death,to set 137 traps---what would I do with 100 beaver in 1 day? Wouldn't be a problem except for having to skin them and freeze them, all at once.

Black Bvr
« Reply #8 on: April 27, 2005, 05:21:43 PM »
The bvr was trapped in Wi  right along Mi border.  Some  of the bvr could have come from Mi.  Ive trapped approx dozen of the pure black bvr but have taken dozens of the  bvrs with black guard hairs but under fur wasnt  like in the pure black ones. Taken alot of reddish ones  in central Wi and further you go north you get into dark brown and black bvrs...

Wacky, takes a large monetary incentive ,for me to get away from the water and trap flea busses.
Beaver are so much nicer to handle, and they smell good.I can't say the same for coyote.

RdFx,

I noticed you mentioned red beaver around central WI. I actually caught a really red colored female last weekend just west of Wisconsin Rapids. We are getting it tanned for the wall because it looks so nice.

Spring weather is sure hard to figure out Tom.  The ground was white with snow for awhile this morning.  Dont think it has gotten over 50 up here in the last 6 or 7 days.

Steve, been under 50 here too, today we will be lucky to hit 40--and it has snowed on and off.
I wish I had this weather when I was up in your country, instead of mid july weather.

Yep, Tom have my camper parked in Shakopee.  Put my heater away a couple of weeks ago when it was warm the first time.  You would think a guy would learn lol.  If it gets down in the forties at night no problem but she gets a little chill in the twentys.  Didnt take me long to take the heater out.

Oh well in another couple of months will be longing for temps to be in the twenties again.
