My first t/c

I am about to purchase my first T/C Encore rifle. I am getting it in 22-250 and later on down the road maybe in300 win mag. Can someone tell me what kind of accuracy I can expect? I will be shooting factory loads. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

T/C factory barrels is a crap shoot. It can be + or - 2 inches or better at a 100 yards. mostly it will be greater than 1 1/2 inches. If you use a bench rest, a good scope,and trigger job on the Encore and work up loads and are lucky it can be 1 inch MOA. If you want greater accuracy you will have to add $150 to $200 for a custom barrel. Mostly a custom barrel is easyer to geat greater accuracy. The T/C barrels are made for the massies where you can change barrels and shoot a lot of different calibra cheaply. T/C's are a lot of fun. Don't get rapped up that one or two barrels is all you will buy. Buy what you want and see what you get and work up loads. If you can't get what you are looking for. Make changes. One of the great things about T/C's is that you can get in and out without loossing your shirt.  Good Luck and have fun. My two cents, Twyman

I have to stongly diseagree with tylne.
I have a stainless encore with a factory 26 inch  .223 barrel  and right out of the box with my handloads It is shooting sub 1/2 MOA 5 shot groups. I have only tried 1 powder and 2 different bullets. The only mods to the rifle is a Bellm trigger spring
I also have a contender pistol and the 14 inch .223 barrel that shoots sub MOA 5 shot groups with the same handloads as the encore.
Now I will admit I cant get my .357 maximum to shoot the way I want but I am still working on it and have not given up on it yet.

Smokin 54: I'll trade you my 357 Max info for your .223 load info. My Max will shoot 1-ragged hole at 50 and keep it under 1.25 at 100yds. I have a SS Super 14" in a .223 that  don't shoot bad but not sub MOA yet. I'd love to hear both of your sides on the 357 Max, I'm just starting with a new 21 inch custom shop stainless barrel and it's not having any fun with any of the loads that shoot great in my 10 inch (censored brand *****) barrel.

factory loads tc barrels

all i shoot is factory loads and i have many tc factory  barrels also other companys barrels..   some times i had to try 4 or five difrent brands of ammo.to match right brand with right barrel..  there is a big difrence in difrent co. rounds.

OK IM NOT SAYING FACTORY AMMO IS BETTER THAN ANY OF YOU GUYS RELOADS,  BUT SOME FACTORY LOADS COMBINE WITH A  BARREL THAT DOSE NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS ITS SELF TC BARRELS INCLUDED!!!ARE JUST AS GOOD OR BETTER THAN ANY FIRST TIME RELOADER AND SOME FULLTIME RELOADERS I KNOW...

a 223 factory barrel i have shoots so good the neighbors daughter (12 at the time) shot  a five shot group in a  turkeys eye at 100 yards..
if i keep my practice up my 30-06 15" can shoot a 1/2 inch at 100 yards and thats a factory barrel..

IF YOUR BARREL COMES AND YOU GET A WIDE SPRED AND ITS NOT YOU SEND IT BACK..BUT TRY DIFRENT LOADS FIRST.. :D

I have yet been able to shoot a 3 shot sub 1" group at 100 yards ...........on any deer!!!!!!

I have a 26" heavy in 22-250 and can shoot the whiskers off a fly. I have to pinch the trigger with my thumb and forefinger to do it but she'll shoot like the best of em'.

I appreciate ya'lls help. It sounded like it takes a lot of experimenting and being creative to make a T/C shoot straight. I guess that's the beauty of it right> Thanks again guys!

I will once again say how lucky I must be.  I have 8 Contender barrels,  1 Encore and have sold about 5 others trading around.  Only one is a custom barrel and it is by Fox Ridge which is just basically a factory barrel in a special caliber.  They all shoot very well, and I do not mean by trying a bunch of handloads.  I do find the most accurate load for each, but I have never had one that made me pull my hair out.  From my experience the custom barrels are not worth the cost.  Might change my mind if the next three barrels I buy are duds, but until then, I am saving me some money with the factory barrels.
