Is it possible to get a Handi in 6br? Either get a smith to do the job? Guess they don't sell a wildcat chamber?

Won't work, cept for a custom barrel. The 6mmBR is much shorter than the .243 Winchester which would be the only H&R caliber with the correct bore size, the 6mm case is much shorter than the .243 case so a rechamber wouldn't clean the old chamber up.  The rates of twist are different also, H&R .243 is 1 in 10", 6mmBR is 1 in 12", not that it wouldn't work, just not optimum.

Your only (well not only), maybe best option would be to re-chamber/bore a 223 24" Ultra barrel.

Hmmm, I would think that the cost for a rebore and rechamber at $200-$350 would be a little costly on an H&R compared to just buying a bolt rifle and having it rebarreled. IIRC, Fred spend about $700 on his and he did a lot of the work himself...

Quick
I guess, but maybe not.  New bolt gun $350-500
New barrel, re-chambered and installed $200-350

Total $550-850

New 223 UV $250
$200-350 for re-bore/chamber

Total $450-600

Sounds to me like the H&R.

True, it would be less expensive, but to exploit the full accuracy potential of the 6mmBR, I think my money would be on the bolt rifle, even as much as I like H&R single shots, I think I'd spend the extra $150 on the bolt gun to insure the most for my $$$. In BR shooting, that little extra $$ can make the difference between winning and just an also ran!    For varmint shooting, I'll just stick with the .223 or .204 and .243 Ultras and put all that extra $$$ in a good scope!!

Yes...you can get a smith to rebore and rechamber to this caliber...but...good luck in getting anyone of them to place a gaurentee on it.....and I've talked to quite a few about doing just this...the cost of this job from a reputable machinist will be expensive to do...and it requires more than just running a reamer thru the bore and rechambering...everthing has to be stress relieved and the barrel reheat treated.....I'm not saying it isn't worth it...not in the least...but it's certainly not a easy project either because there is no room for any error in doing this...you cannot set the barrel back on our Handis..like you can with any of the bolt guns.....my contention is if you are going after a benchrest cartridge and benchrest accuracy...I think your money would be better spent..picking up a used Savage for around $250...and redoing it...or buying a new  barreled Howa action or a  Remington action and building one up...which with any of  these can be done for under $700 complete...

That said...if you do take on this project..please post the details of it...and some nice pictures as well...

The only Handy barrel you could use for a rebore job to get a 6BR or a 6PPC would be a 22Hornet. The 223 chamber would not clean up in length.

But a 6x47 an older BR cartridge would do a good job. Cases are made from 222Rem Mag. For this conversion stress relieving would not be needed sinnce very little metal is removed.

I have a 223 Ultra with a bull barrel that I am thinking of turning into a 6x47. My barrel maker has a reamer. For a strictly varmint rifle a 1-14": twist would be best. For a bit of deer hunting with lighter 85gr bullets a 1-12 would be good. The price for a custom single shot would be quite resonable. It is not a difficult job. Adding an octagon profile would add another $200. So about $450 plus the rifle.
