Hi all,

I was wondering if shipping charges through midway are reasonable. Anywone that has ordered through them please comment on there shipping charges. They have good prices on most products, but I am trying to find out if it still would be cheaper to buy local.

Shopping at Midway is like most shopping. If you're looking to stretch your bucks -and who isn't-, you can shop at several online companies and look for the best deal at each. In the long run, it will come out to be pretty much a wash. Some say free shipping and charge more, others charge shipping but their prices appear cheaper and so forth. I have used Midway for quite a while and have been pleased with them overall. I do not use them exclusively however. I also shop at Graf, Sinclair, Mid South and others.
We haven't any really well stocked gun shops around here but if we did, I would try to use them as much as possible.

There's no such thing as reasonable shipping charges. It seems that the lower the catalog prices, the higher the shipping & handling. Brownells prices are the highest, but their S&H are lower than most others. I've always felt that the high S&H offset the lower catalog prices. A bit deceptive IMHO.

Before you order from Midway check the prices at Midsouth, They are often lower than Midway. Also their shipping(to Ohio) is 2-3 days faster than midway. Both are cheaper than Natchez, Graf & Son, Precision Reloading, Cabela's, Redhead, Or Basspro. Yes I do have all of these catalogs. The only downside to Midsouth is their $40 min. order(Midway's is $25 min. to avoid a sm. order chg.). It does pay to shop around.

Depends on how the shipping charges are computed. For example, I just bought 500 405 Grain Remington bullets, Cabelas who determines shipping by cost, charges $8 shipping for the order, Midway charges $22 for the identical same order. Midway's item cost is $62, while Cabela's is $63.....You can guess who I ordered them from....$71 vs $84?

:wink: It just pays to shop around and make sure of the total shipped order amount and not just the item cost.

The thing I do not like about Midway and Natchez is that they claim they charge you the actual shipping charges (in addition to a handling fee at Natchez, not sure about Midway). I work at a company that ships a large volumn of UPS per day and know what a company that ships large amounts actually pays and I can tell you it is 25-40% less than what those two claim the true UPS charge is. I say do not tell me I am paying actual shipping charges and then give me the shaft. Unless I am ordering something that is on sale, Grafs is hard to beat, $4.75 charge no matter what you order. I have had packages of bullets my wife had trouble getting off the porch shipped for $4.75, bet Midway would be much more. As one other said some places prices are a little more but shipping might be a lot less so you have to look at it closely. But unless it is on sale, Midway is usually never the cheapest and they add what I think to be high shipping top of it.

If you order online with Grafs they knock a dollar off to make it $3.75 Grafs low shipping makes it especially nice when buying 22LR ammo since it is still $3.75 shipping with no hidden charges.
No matter what it still pays to shop around.

I buy alot of stuff from Midway. Not everything, but alot... optics, ammo, dies, trimmers, etc. Make sure you sign-up or register, or whatever they call it.... you'll get access to a number of "specials" including discounts around your birthday on their entire inventory. I tend to buy stuff from them that is discounted this way and I'll tell you I save a bundle, shipping included. Their latest thing is early access to their monthly specials, allowing you to combine sale items from two months on a single order. My purchases this way tend to run $200 - $400 and for what I'm getting the shipping costs are an afterthought. That said, I'll probably be buying a Lee Classic Cast press from Cabela's as it'll be $10 or so less.... not sure though... I might still go for a Rock Chucker, which is on sale at Midway in May, and combine it with some other stuff I need (Stoney point OAL Cases in 6.5 x 55, 204 Ruger, maybe 7mm Wby) that Cabela's doesn't carry. Bottom line ? Shop around, why not ? But for me Midway is usually hard to beat

I shop at Midway quite often, but not exclusively, because I like their service. As long as I place my order before 2:00 pm it ships the same day and is always delivered in 2 working days.

Since i have my C&RFFL Midway USA honors that and gives me dealer discounts/prices on everything they sell that takes a big chunk out of the shipping too the only thing is i have to spend $40 to miss the minimun $4 fee for being under $40. But i have no problem spending $40 per visit. I can't beat there prices anywhere else. BigBill

I'm good for $300 a month at midwayUSA right now just stocking up and buying Lee stuff.

Having your C&RFFL sure pays off the $30 dollar fee comes back ten fold with gun prices and gun accessories too its a win/win situation for everyone!!!!

I do most of my web shopping at Midway, Midsouth SS, Natchez SS and Cabella's. I find that Cabella's sometimes has lower list prices (like on premium bullets, for example) and their total price with shipping can be the lowest. I can't count on it, though, so I comparative shop. Midway offers a lot of sales specials.
