Encore in 416 Rigby, anyone shoot one yet???

I see that T/C has a 416 Rigby for the Encore. Has anyone shot it yet?

i read a story about a bear hunt in my new american hunter magazine...guy shot a 10 foot bear with an encore in .416 Rigby...took one shot but he pumped another two in to be sure before he walked up to it, lol.

Not that i blame him, although the bear might have been kinder to his shoulder than the Rigby was. :)

I seen a special run barrel at Cabelas, but that is the only place I seen 'em.

In the theme of Masterc@rd: :-D

Box of 20 rounds for 416 Rigby - $140
Encore Barrel in 416 Rigby - Under $300

I have not heard of anyone from my community that has shot one....as it is, there are not a lot of people who live here, so Per Capita, we don't have many fruit-cake / nut cases running around loose that would shoot such a caliber, and thereby be able to report about it and its recoil.

RCampbell is right, I saw it in at Cabalas, it is on back order there though.

I have one in a CZ 550 Safari at about 9.5lbs.  Trust me, you DO NOT want any part of this in an Encore.  It takes my front foot off the ground when I shoot it standing.  Once off the bench was enough, well...more than enough.

I have a 416 Rem Mag in an OTT barrel (26") for my Encore.  It's got a brake and it kicks a hell of a lot less than the Ruger #1 that I had in 416.  Dead accurate, too...

Do you think it is worth the punishment??  I am considering one but don't want a gun I don't like to shoot.

I was over to Bullberry a few years ago and one of the employees had just finished a 416 in an Encore pistol to take with him to Alaska. I think it was a 12" barrel but I can't remember if it was ported. I sure had some nice wood wrapped around it. You could contact Fred and see if he is still there. I know Virgin Valley made a few in their early days.

Well I went and did it. I ordered the 416 Rigby Encore barrel today from cabalas. I also order dies, bullets, and brass. I also ordered a Sims Recoil pad and have a mercury recoil suppressor on order. I am going to drill the stock and install the mercury recoil suppressor and then install the Sims pad. It is a 26 inch heavy barrel, I will need all the weight I can get.   It should be a blast. :D

Remember, you don't have to load it up to max, either.  No need.  Mine has plenty of ooomph for moose (and the occasional whitetail) with min. loads.  Remember, mine has a brake on it.  Glad you got it.  Enjoy!!

old4x4, I am hoping the the Sims recoil pad and the mercury recoil suppressor do the job. I was planning on starting at the min load. It is more powerful at the min than any of my other big bore guns.  :D

I guess Cabela's got them back in stock since you found one.  I have shot an unbraked 458 in a #1, and I see they are near each other in recoil.  Now you have my interest up since this may be cheaper alternative to having a special barrel built or buying a #1 in 416 or 458 Lott.  I could add a removable brake to either platform.  Let me know how it goes in the Encore.

I sure will keep you all informed, I am adding the Sims Recoil pad and have a mercury recoil suppressor so I won't have to put a muzzle break on it. I hate those loud things, except in my 500 MAG pistol.  :D

On the 416 Rigby, I added the Sims Recoil pad and a mercury recoil suppressor, barrel came with a muzzle break on it. I did not know it had one.

Well it shot like a dream. I thought it was going to punish me, but my 300 Win Mag Encore barrel that is not braked has more noticeable recoil. My taxidermist buddy shot it also and he thought the recoil was not bad at all.

I bore sighted it in with my Leupold magnetic bore sighter and went to our local quick shooting spot, and at 30 yards my first shot was about 1.5 inches to the left and elevation was right on. Moved the adjustment over and 2nd shot hit a bulls eye. 3rd shot hit 1 inch above the 2nd bullet. My buddy shot it 2 times with both bullets hitting within 1/2 inch of each other and about 1 inch above the bullseye.

Well now I will have to wait and go to our formal range and shoot it at 100 yards and 200 yards to see how it does.

Recoil was nothing like I expected it to be. It is a fun round to shoot.  :D

My Ruger #1 in 45-70 has more felt recoil than the 416 Rigby.

Also I shot it once with the stock Encore pad, the difference is noticeable and I prefer the Sims pad. I have a  mercury recoil suppressor on the way for my Ruger #1 and I think I will order a Sims pad for it also.

So there you have it, the 416 Rigby in an Encore has been tested and the recoil is nothing like some have described.  :D
