next best - flat base

I don't use bevel base at all

ive had some bevel based bullets do well but mostly in the low pressure stuff like the 45acp. But overall Greybeard hit it on the nose.

I always thought that bevel base were developed mainly for hi-volume (commercial) reloaders, because those bullets seat easier with fewer hangups.

Cooper, that and commercial casters like it too since the bevel base drops easier from the moulds

I make real Keith bullets with a flat base and even real lube(LBT Blue). And my bullets are not so hard as not to obturate. MOST commercial casters are not shooters, call and ask or better come to Cody WY for John Linebaughs seminar and learn something from people who actually shoot quite a bit with sixguns and even carry them daily with the intent to use it.

Brian,
I always use gaschecked bullets for my casts, when they are available for the caliber that I cast for. With gaschecks, I've been able to use bullets with a 1 tin/ 20 lead mix and no leading... pushed to some respectible velocities.

I too am a died-in-the-wool gascheck man. Most of my loads are pretty moderate these days but everyonce in awhile I want to really blow my ears back and those gas checks really cut down on the leading. In addition, I firmly believe they aid accuracy.

I drive a non-checked, flat based, 255 grain bullet at over 1500 f/s without leading. Trick is to use a waxed cardboard wad under the base. With the wad, group size was cut in half.
