Wolf .223 ammo?
« on: April 28, 2005, 04:10:59 PM »
Anybody ever try the wolf .223 ammo? How does it shoot? I can't find anything that'll beat the price. Thanks.

Well as far as just plinking-they were alright for me.
I might get shot for saying that, but hey
My Ultra shot them ok, and ejected them over my shoulder. I have yet to try to put them on paper, but from my rough guess I was shooting them within 3". Like I said I haven't tried to group them, but for just plinking were accuracy isn't needed 100 percent, I had fun with them. Not a bad idea if you want to at least get the feel of you rifle. Pretty dirty though. After shooting a few and then going back to brass, the spent brass got stuck in the chamber.
I like good ammo though, and would rather spend my money on brass rounds that will group well under an inch. Just my 2 cents.

   ...Oh no here we are again.....Wolf 62 gr.ammo shoots great in my NEF also...that is apparently not the norn on this forum, I use 62gr ammo in an AR carbine because of the twist rate and although dirty I've never had a problem OF ANY KIND with it. (even in full auto rifles) $60 bucks for a case of 500 rounds speaks loudly for a bunch of fun that won't wreck your wallet too bad. Best to try allot of different manufacturers and pick one that shoots acceptably in your rifle....it's as simple as that

P.S. you can also do a search on Wolf ammo and it has been cussed and discussed numerous tmes on the forum :D

Accuracy wise, Wolf ammo does pretty good in my Bushmaster.  Not the best, but good enough for the price.

Only gripe - very messy.  Tough to clean up.  A price you pay for the cheap ammo.

Exactly Yukon Gold!! It is allot easier to run some solvent down the bore of an NEF than stripping an AR and cleaning it!  :D  Bottom line...shoot what works for ya and shoot allot of it!! :-D

The 62gr Wolfs did fair in mine, I want to try them again though.
The ones mine shot the best (if you can actually say"best") were the 55gr.

Yeah...see I haven't even tried the Wolf 55 grain as I got a pile of the 62 grain for the AR...I got a do that too to see how it shoots in the NEF....accuracy wise the 45grain Wiiny whitebox stuff out shoots anything I have tried so far.... 8)

I've had a box of the 55gr wolf from the get go, but the 45gr JHP whitebox shot so good, I never even tried the wolf. I only bought the wolf due to the price, someday I'll try em just to get rid of em.... :-D

Those 45's Winchesters are great. I have noticed that mine used to shoot the 55gr Winchester white box ammo really bad, but I am getting a little better accuracy out of them now the more I shoot it.
The Remington UMC 55g shoot better in mine than the 55grWwb though.

Well, I oredered some to try it.  I guess I,m unusual in this, But my Handi actually shoots Ultramax ammo (my favorite so far) better than the Winchester. In al fairness though I shot the ultramax ALOT before I ran out and tried a box of winn. just to shoot.  I will make sure I have plenty of solvent though...Thanks Guys.

For me, cheap ammo just doesn't get it. Wolf ammo is cheap ammo. Winchester white box is not cheap ammo and has good brass that can be used for reloading. I do not imagine there are too many .223 rifles out there that do not get satisfactory accuracy from the WWB.

I am not knocking those that use Wolf ammo because choices are what makes this a very interesting hobby or lifestyle depending on your degree of interest. My brother used to use Wolf ammo in his Bushmasters until he found the Federal reloads that gave him better accuracy and were much cleaner burning.

I use Wolf in my AR's and my Daewoo DR200, but I shoot WWB 45gr HP's in my other guns.  Wolf is plinking ammo, and shouldn't be expected to produce MOA groups.  It averaged around 2" in one of my target AR's, and about the same out of a Remington 700.

Its simply fun ammo, not target ammo.  The newer polymer stuff is even better, and the price is still the same as the older laquer based stuff.
