I've heard of the 250 gr bullet for the 30 caliber 30/06, 300. The biggest bullet I've found is a Serria 240gr bullet. I can't find the 250gr bullet. Is it made? If so who makes it? :-D

I know Barnes USE to make a 250 gr. .308 in the old Original version but I haven't seen them listed for quite some time. I never seen the need myself for a .308 bullet weighting over 220 gr. even out of my .300 magnums. What would you use them for? Lawdog

I have no use for them but I heard they were being used on a forum I was reading. What for I don't know. Like you said the 220gr bullet is all I'll ever need for Bears. At least thats what I've used them for before.

I believe Hawk bullets makes a 30 cal 250

I suspect what you ran across was some discussion of long range target shooting. There are some fast twist .30 target rifles (some look more like rail guns than rifles) that can use special 250 grain match bullets. But you don't see many 1000+ in .30 - Most are .338 to .50 BMG. If in fact this what you heard about - These type bullets would have no hunting application.

In the 1950's before there were so many medium bore magnum cartridges, the Barnes 250 loaded in 30-06 were popular for Alaskan Brown bear. I read about them as a kid but never found the bullets until the 1980's. Have one box still but I've only loaded them in my 300 win mag. for range experiments. I think the partitions, fail safes and X Bullets in the 200 gr range may be a better choice these days.
