Marlin 444 bullets
« on: April 29, 2005, 03:44:13 PM »
I just ordered some of the Speer Gold Dot 270gr flat soft point bullets.  I have read some great reviews about this bullet.  Has anyone tried them in your 444 marlin yet?  I read there as good as the hard cast bullets are in the 444 also.                                                BigBill

The Hornady did well for me, but te 270gr. was a bit better.  Most accurate jacketed round I have found.  Too bad they are expensive and not sold as blems.

Fellas - try some of the hardcast gas checked offerings from Beartooth - 295s, 300s, 330s, 350s, even 405s.  Should firelap your barrels first.  Those hardcast slugs shoot just as accurately as any jacketed slug.  Plus, you have a better selection of profiles to choose from.  Yo9u can always shoot jacketed again if you want to but I doubt you will.  JMHO.  Mikey.

I've got over a 1000 rounds down my 444 I think I've got it fire lapped  I have been thinking of trying some of the 300 gr bullets that Marshall makes.

I've taken 1 deer with the 270 GD.Heart shot about 70 yrds, nice expansion. The buck went 50yrds. Last year, I shot a doe with the hornady 265 gr.She was 40 yrds , the bullet went thru the top of the shoulders. Both holes looked about the same size.I load both bullets a little over 2300 fps.
