Which red dot sight?

I'm considering the purchase of a red dot type sight for my AR. I will be hunting coyotes with this set up and shot ranges will not exceed 200 yards.

I'm attempting to choose between a TruGlo 45mm red dot scope and an ATN Ultrasight.

What would make you choose one over the other?

You have taken into account how much area the dot covers on the target using red dot scopes?  The TrueGlo model TG8045B has a 5 MOA dot which means it covers a 5 inch circle at 100 yards(10 inches at 200 yards).  Hard to get pin point accuracy covering that much area with a dot.  I have tried them on both handgun and rifle and found their accuracy to be lacking.  It is for this reason the red dot scopes I bought are sitting in a drawer in my reloading bench.  Lawdog

I have reconsidered the TruGlo red dot scope. I would like the large 45mm scope size, but I could live without the large M.O.A. dot size. I agree with you on the large dot covering the intended target, thus becoming useless for good accuracy.

I'll look into Tasco, BSA, Barska and some others to see what the M.O.A. size is on their red dot scopes.

I use them on my Contender and Encore.  The Contender has a Tasco on a .22RF barrel.  I use this for close shots and love it.  It is extreamely accurate.  The Encore is a 30-06 rifle, and I also have the problem of the dot covering too much area for good accurate shooting at any distance.  I use this gun in a tree stand for bears only, at close range(40yards max).  The size of the dot is negliable at this distance.  It's real easy to see during low light.

I have a millet sp1 reddot sight.  It's 1" tube fits in standard scope rings and has a 3moa dot.  My only gripe is the clicks are .625" or something like that instead of .25" per click.  But other than that I've got no complaints.  I bought buttler creek 1" flip up scope covers for it today as a matter of fact.

The make both 1" and 30mm reddot scopes.

i put a bushnell holosight on a scout rifle in 6.5x55 mauser. the rifle will shoot under an inch at 100yds with the 2-7 scout scope.
  when i put the holosight on i found it hard to get three or four inches at that range. i think the dot sight is great for speed, but lacks precision at longer range.
   after shooting a few on pistols.  it was confirmed!

I tried a red dot scope and the parallax error just killed any accuracy or precision.  I think they would be good for a 50 yard fire fight but not for much else.  Larry
