New toys?
« on: May 01, 2005, 03:10:47 AM »
Anyone get, or going to get, any new toys to use during the upcoming season? Rifles, handguns, shotguns or bows? I've got a new slug barrel for my 11/87. Haven't even shot it yet. Maybe this afternoon.

I'm going to put a scope on my muzzleloader barrel this summer sometime.  I just bought a new hunting knife for my b-day.

Kershaw Majesty... 3 1/4 inch blade, gut hook, rosewood handle, $45 if you look around.

I haven't bought a new bolt action in a long long time for deer hunting, years even. I sure like the looks of the light weight Kimbers... If everthing goes well the next couple of months maybe I can have one. Some new cammo would be nice too. Most of my cammo is dang near faded white.

Lately I've spent my extra cash on building a shooting house and getting an old unplated field ready for the up comming season so maybe that counts.

Take Care,
Scott

I don't use a up coming season for an excuse to buy new guns. I just keep getting them all the time. I switch out guns like underwear.  :D

I plan on buying one of those Kimber Montana's in 7mm-08 sometime in July, will be ready for deer season.  I hunt with my Browning A-Bolt 30.06 now, she will have someone to talk to in the tent    I am also going to have a custom knife made by Mike and JavalinaKnives.com, will have giraffe leg bone handles as well.  Also need bear clothing if I get drawn for a permit and if I do end up going, also need a few things for deer season as well.  Plenty to buy, not enough money!!  Seems like that is the story line every year  :D

I bought a limited addition Rem 7600 Carbine. I planned on keeping it in the safe, but couldn't keep my hands off of it. So, I put a williams peep and a fire sight on it and plan on taking it to the woods this fall. My wife thinks my pumps breed every winter and put out a new pup or two by spring!!!! Picked up a Garmin GPS as well.
It is NOT unethical to shoot at running deer. That's hunting!!

Just got a pair of Zeiss Classics.   I only shoot at a deer once or twice a year, but I use my binocs every day during the season and many times during off season.
Cabela's has a deal I couldn't pass any longer.

Binocs kept me from looking at that new Savage/Stevens model 200 any more!

Scheels was clearing out the 700 ADL Synthetics a couple weeks ago. The 270's were 329.00 So I put one on layaway. I also put a new Swift Prmier 4x12 scope on the layaway. The total for the new package is 483.00. A while before that I also picked up the 700 Classic for this year in 308 with the 24 inch barrel. I have a couple of new Buck knives as well. I am ready for the upcomming seasons. I have had really good performance from the Swift Premier scopes and I can see a few more in my future.
shot placement is everything.

Just got my .35 whelen back from the the gunsmith.

It's an M700 ADL in one of the old Bell and Carlson Stocks (the dimensions of this stock really fit me).  I plan to top it with a Leupold VariX II 3-9-40 (this is the same stock and scope that I had on the rifle before I rebarrelled it).

Hopefully I will get time to hunt with it this fall.

I'm debating between a Jeep Unlimited Rubicon, which I would put a 4" lift and 33" tires on, or a Power Wagon with the Off-Road package. Sweet.

But the little gadget I'm having the most fun with is a set of shooting sticks. I was sold on them after using them on safari but they are commercially unavailable, excepting for those monopod and bipod things. All I did was bought 3 bamboo poles from the hardware store. They are about 6' long and cost maybe a dollar apiece. I also purchase a small vacuum cleaner belt. With all three sticks bunched together you work the vacuum cleaner belt about a foot or so down, and voila! You have a very functional tripod that you can adjust to almost any height. They're light, quiet, and provide a very stable shooting base that is good for any position from standing to kneeling.
