Alex,

That is kind of like asking what is the best steak.  Too many
combinations of cuts, cooking, and marinades

The best AR-15?  I have two and just in that many, I can't say
which is best.  My RRA M4 pre-ban is the sweetest coyote
carry, and plinking rifle I own.  My RRA 20" Varminter is
a great varmint gun, off a bench, or for bunnies, in the garden,
out the shed window...Should I shoot Mr. Flower mucher in the
right eye or left eye?  :-D  But that is the beauty of the AR design.
Put together the upper that fits your purpose, with a lower that suits
your trigger finger.

So maybe you might want ot give us a few clues, as to what you
want ot use that AR for, and I might be able to offer some
better choices for a stated purpose.  With all of the new WSSM
uppers, and some of the newer varmint caliber offerings, the
AR sure has come a long way from the original .223 Rem. chambered
mouse gun of the Viet Nam Era.  I qualified with an M-16, in
1972, and things sure have changed since then!  Who would have
thought that the tumbling bullet launching piece of plastic
junk rifle would have morphed into what we have today

Sqeeze

I had a dealer order the RRA 20" Varmiter. I thought I would try light
varmit BT's & V-Maxes up to the 75GR. OTM. Can you tell me what varmit
bullets shoot good in your Varmiter?

Thanks!

RRA Varminter ammo

Nomosendero,

I only tried one load combo, and it went .5 MOA, so I haven't
tried any more load development.  Building a new home has
put a real crunch on my reloading/range time

Anyway, I don't recall the exact powder charge weight, but
the rest of the details are locked in my memory.  First the
bullet is a 55 gr. Nolser Ballistic tip.  I load Lake City brass,
with a Remington Small Rifle Benchrest primer, and Hogdgon
Varget powder.  The COL is 2.25" which is about max for the
magazines.

When conditions are good, and I have not over subscribed
to the morning coffee, I have shot groups, under .5 MOA, with
the RRA Varminter.   This same ammo groups in the .75 MOA
range, in my 16" RRA Pre-ban chrome/moly barreled carbine,
too.
