Is there a difference between a .32ACP & a .32auto or a .380auto & a .380ACP? I was always under the impression that they were the same thing but if that is the case, then why does this site list them seperately? :oops:

32 Auto is a nickname for the 32 ACP and likewise, 380 Auto is a nickname for the 380 ACP.

As for your ad, I'll bet the two listings were typed up on seperate days, possibly by two different people.

Has to do with the rim.
ACP is rimless auto has a rim. If I understand it.

williamlayton - Nope. The 32 ACP (aka 32 Auto, 7.65 auto) by design has a semi-rimmed case. The 380 auto (aka 380 acp, 9mm Kurtz, 9mm Corto and possibly one other shrot 9mm european designation) by design has a rimless case. The cartridge designation of acp (automatic colt pistol) doesn't refer to rimless or semi-rimmed or rimmed.

And I would definately go with unspellable's thoughts - probably typed by two different people on two different days. HTH. Mikey.

williamlayton: Nope, not wrong and please accept my apology if ya thunk I meant it that way. There has always been some confusion about those designations and some of it is just plain foolish. I had a young(key word here) gun store clerk tell me less than 3 weeks ago that the 32 acp would not fire the 7.65mm auto and that they were two different cartridges. Of course, when I asked to see a Beretta Tomcat and then dropped a 32 acp round down the tube from a box marked 7.65mm auto he just about pooped his drawers (mainly 'cause I had loaded a gun in his shop). Ah well, life in America. Mikey.

The .45 Auto Rim was developed for use in M1917 revolvers without the half moon clips. Because these revolvers have quite a bit of headspace to allow for the half moon clips, the rim on the .45 Auto Rim cartridge is quite thick.
