Bubble level front sights
« on: May 04, 2005, 05:09:58 AM »
I installed a Smith brand bubble level front sight on my Pedersoli Sharps Quigley in .45-120.

It works fine, but I'm curious. Do the bubbles on most/all of these style sights respond slowly? I have to adjust the cant on my rifle slowly so the bubble has time to move, otherwise I overcorrect.

you may be missenterpeting what is happening.  if you start with the gun very much out of level it will take some twisting to get with in the bubbles working range.. it is a very short low arc..  when it comes to the level position if your still turning it radically with will flip to the other side..  look over the gun and get it level, or use the rear sight standard to make it verticle then move it slowly from there....  the other things that would vary bubble speed is the arc of the level glass  or the medium that the bubble is in..  i wouldnt  think oil would be slow as in a small bottle the bubble will still move relatively  fast..  it could have too large of radius but the good part about that is it would be more accurate..   give it time,, if it still bugs you after a couple  months youl probably need a  different brand.. dave..

I wouldn't say the bubble on my front sight is quick. It seems to work out all right by the time I'm ready to pull the trigger.  I like the lag time for my BPCR loads. They're slow to go. Take your time.
