« on: May 05, 2005, 07:08:48 AM »
Which one did you get and how do you like it??

I am thinking very handy in 450 marlin or 45/70 for taking an Elk.

Anybody hunt with one yet??

I have the 444 Marlin, worked great for deer and hogs. It will also work well for Black Bear and Elk. One thing is, it is loud.

I have to agree with you on that. I like the 45-70 round better than the 444 Marlin.  :D

I have both the 444 and 45/70.  My 444 works really well.  The 45/70 had something wrong with the chamber and is getting replaced or corrected.  It would not fit some of the factory loaded ammo in the chamber correctly and it split a few Winchester factory loads right down the side of the brass.  Both barrels are loud.

My 45/70 24" SS works well though with the factory loads, and handloads.

If you are interested in a 444 Marlin Katahdin Barrel Let me know. I have a like new barrel and tons of brass and 100 factory rounds and some 320 gr. reloads 50 each that shoot extremely well in that barrel. The barrel also has a Weaver base and Weaver 4X4 rings. And 2 sets of dies.  E-mail me if interested.  :D

My log on name says it all. The Katahdin carbine is the most fun I have with my clothes on. Mine is in 45-70 and is fun to shoot if you don't mind a little recoil.  I have a 1.5 to 5 power shotgun scope from cabalas on it.

I have the 450 Marlin Katadihn barrel and have shotit as a rifle and pistol.  I was actually surprised how easy it was to shoot andhow acurate it is.  My interest have now turned to the 209X50 for encore and looking for 45-70 for contender.

Packs a good punch on both sides only bad thing the muzzle brake makes it so loud.  When I sighted it in I ended up using ear plugs and ear muffs.  I would like it better with out the muzzle brake.  If your not reloading the 450 marlin has a bigger power advantage over the 45-70.  Accuracy was great 3 holes all touching at 125 yards.  I lucked up and got mine used with the forend 2 complete boxes of hornady shells and a 1-4 power bushnell scope for $180.00.  I could not pass that deal up.

I just got a 450 Marlin barrel ordered, should be here in time to go shoot it next week end.

Am I correct in assuming that you can remove the rear sight and put a scope mount on it there?

Scope mounts like any other barrel.  Should be no problem.
