Single Shot Actions
« on: May 05, 2005, 07:27:52 AM »
Is there any source out there for a single shot action?  That is, without paying a small fortune on the receiver.  Stock, barrel, etc. will be added later.  Any info is appreciated.  ED

H&R's or NEF are single shots less than $100.00 and shoot good.

How about mentioning what you think you want to do with it?

Big bore, medium or small bore.  Short case, medium or long case.

Or, do you know what calibers interest you?

New or used, rolling block, falling block, break open, bolt??

The actions suitable for your project will depend a lot on what you are planning on ...

Depending on what your plans are, it's sometimes much cheaper to buy a complete gun, and strip it. Many times a gun that is in tired condition, or customized poorly, can be purchased for less than the action.
I just picked up an old Rolling Block rifle that had been rebarrelled, and restocked, and reblued, for under $200. The action alone couldn't be purchased for that

Bikered, I have been on such a quest for 3 years now. As soon as my shop is finished I will start work on cast actions from Rodney Storie. As a substitute I just bought a Hiwall copy from Uberti and added a new stock to the curved butt plate. I bought the stock as a second from a rifle builder and it looks great now. Look at the Uberties and find a friendly FFL owner to get it for you. Mine cost about $950 total. She shoots really well and I just modified a Low Wall for my lady. She got it in .357 Magnum and I rechambered it to .357 Maximum. That baby is SWEET. Tryit.

Tryit. What type of castings does Rodney Storie offer and how can he be reached?

Look for a used Ruger #1 in the $350-$450 price range. They are easy to rebarrel and customize. NEF is no bargain even at $100.

Action by R. Storie

Wimccann, Rodney Storie's phone number is 405-214-4477 and his email is rodneystorie@hotmail.com. He works some strange hours but I have seen his products and they are great. He has such a selection that I cannot even list them. I got a nice Ballard action cast from a fellow that was in need of cash quick. Also I got a Hiwall action from this same fellow. They do not seem to take that much work but be careful in drilling holes in the action. Be sure they are straight thru. I plan to build a number when I retire. Also there is Frontier Armoury. I do not have a phone number as yet but they are associated with Mr. Storie. Tryit.

Tryit ,thanks for the information. Will see what I can find out. I tried contacting Frontier Armory after they put an add in Black Powder Cartridge News and never got a reply. I had seen a comment on another talk forum(can't remember which one ) that implied Frontier Armory was slow and unresponsive. Let us know what kind of luck you have with them.
