.500 Smith & Wesson ?

The Winchester offering, a 400 grain bullet at 1800 fps. in a pistol length round looks like a hot deer/bear/hog woods gun to me. Why no lever or semi-auto carbine from the big American makers? Hot loaded .45-70 performance in a short round looks like a winner to me. What do you guys think?

I think they are afraid of the working pressure of the 500 MAG in a lever action, but sounds like it would be a great gun if they made one.  :D

My 500 pushes the 400 gr bullet over 1600 FPS. I think 1800 would be a little fast. To much PSI for the handgun but a rifle could take it. :D

Not a big maker, but Wild West Arms in Anchorage, AK makes a levergun that will handle it. Shorter and fatter than a Marlin 336, made out of 17-4 PH. And NEF makes a Handi Rifle barrel for it.
"Give me a lever long enough, and a place to stand, and I'll break the lever."
