Gentlemen, I recentley purchaced a 1895, I'm wondering when the date of mfg is. It's got the microgroove barrel, straight buttstock, and for what its worth, a barrel dovetail front sight. serial #B0088xx. In my research I read where the barrels were switched to microgroove and pistol grip in early 1981-82. Or, could this just be a rifle that was converted from a pistol grip to a straight stock? Any info would be appreciated.[/b]

Starting in 1973, the year of manufacture may be determined by subtracting the first two digits of the serial number from 100:
Example: SN 2512345 would have been made in 1975 [100 - 25 = 75].  That would make yours a 2000 model year it seems.

I've got what seems like the identical rifle to yours, with a straight stock, microgroove barrel and barrel dovetail front sight, but mine was made in 1974.  First two digits of the serial number are 26.

Now the weird part is that I thought they went to the ramp front sight around 1980 or so, but yours seems to prove I'm wrong about that.

Well I dont think I'm proving you wrong on the ramp, because this '95 does not have a cross bolt safety! So the 2000, date I cant believe is right. I thought maybe I wrote the serial # incorrect but no, the first two numbers are 00 with a prefix letter of B. The fact that it doesn't have the receiver safety is the reason I purchased it. Aside from a few dings in the stock, it's in otherwise excellent shape.  Thank you for your input, appreciate it.
