I have read that airguns require very little maintenance but I was wondering what to use to prevent rust on the exterior of a TF 99. Would WD-40 be okay on the outside of the barrel? And should I purchase a bottle of spring cylinder oil? Also what should I use for the wood?

I heard that the bore doesn't really need anything for a long time but if you think otherwise I am open to any suggestions.

I read a test report on various oils for corrosion resistance and regular old motor oil worked the best. I shoot mostly pump up airguns. There is enough oil in and on them that I don't have to do anything extra to the wood. Sone people wax their stocks.

Stay away from those "felt cleaning pellets". You'll most likely damage your rifle as they are not intended for springer use. Stay away from WD-40 as it is to penetrate not lubricate. Go to http://www.beeman.com/care.htm and read about the care and feeding of modern spring-piston air rifles. Follow its directions and your new rifle will give you years of service. Ok thanks Lawdog you are always lots of help. I did have one question after reading the article. How do I clean the bore with MP-5 oil? It is a fixed barrel so can I use a cheaper rod like one from RWS or should I run patches through it with something like the Beeman zipper kit?

I personally use Zip Cleaning Kits for all my air guns. They are designed for air gun barrels and won't do any damage to the rifling like a hard rod can. Lawdog
