Grey Phased Turkey
« on: May 08, 2005, 01:34:50 AM »
This is my first turkey of the year.It was on Friday April 29 2005.I took my four year old to daycare and by 8:30am I was in my favorite beechnut holler I love to hunt. Before I sat down I could see fresh scratching everywhere under the beechnut trees in the holler. So I knew that there where some birds close by.I setup and began to call softly on my mouth caller. Then later I began to cutt a little.I had response up the holler from what sounded like a half gobble from a jake.I continued to call and did not hear anything for awhile. At around 9:25 am I see a cool looking grey phase turkey approaching from the creek in the bottom of the holler. When it got to thirty yards I could tell it had a beard so I took the shot. The turkey fell down but got right back up.The turkey then flew straight to me so I swung on the turkey and fired again when it was 5 yards in flight in front of me.The turkey fell stonedead right beside me.The turkey weighted 10 lbs.-10 0z. with a 3 1/2" beard and no spurs.

Congrats!! Interesting, I'd bet that turkey is just one chromosome away from being an albino!!!
