colt defender??
« on: May 08, 2005, 09:34:53 PM »
Hello everybody, I think I might be in the market for a compact 45acp, any thoughts on the colt defender? I am looking for something I can carry in a fanny pack. .45 is not an absolute must, but is very high on the list. I also thought of an EAA compact in 45. unfortunantly cost is a factor here.
Any help with this would be appreciated

halfbreed,

I carry a Colt Defender in 45ACP.  I have been carrying it for over 3 years now. I shoot it about every 2 weeks to stay proficient with it. It is very accurate and reliable. I love the gun.  :D

Redhawk1, thanks for the quick reply, I found one locally new, for under $600.00. I don't know how good a price this is, but, I know it is a good deal under the msrp.
what kind of holster do you carry it in?
 Thanks John

That is not a bad price at all. I paid a lot more for mine. I am using a High Noon holster. It conceals very well. And I think the Colt Defender looks good.  :D

hopefully the defender will conceal good in a fanny pack, I am looking for a pistol with plenty of knock down, where I have to wear a tucked in shirt, with no jacket or vest.

I would have recommended you look at the Para Ordnance "Carry" model, it's a double-action .45ACP and very small. Waiting for mine to arrive. Only problem is it's cost... $850 for mine.

halfbreed, stick with the Colt Defender, I had the Para Ordnance my self and chose the Colt over it. But that is just my personal preference.  :D

Is the "Para Carry" an all steel pistol?  If it is, I bet it weighs 30ozs +. The only small Para I have experience with is the C-6-45 LDA. WAYYY to heavy for carry in anything other than a good belt holster. In my experience, weight is just as important as size. I can carry a lightweight commander easier than an all steel compact.
