This load is for my SSK 14" 45/70 Contender. 54gr of H322 ,Fed 210 primers and Hornady 300gr HP. It does an excellent job on whitetails and is  extremely accurate out of my pistol. Factory Remington 300gr ammo also shot good but I never killed anything other than grounhogs with it.

I have a 14" Contender w/break and I use IMR 4198, 37grns with a Sierra 300 grn Flat Point,Hollow Point. It shoots very well out to 100 yards in my pistol.   I'm getting around a 1 1/2" group at 100yds on sand bags. I took a doe with it opening morning last seaon and at the hit, she spun 360 degrees and went down.     Through both shoulders and about a 1" exit wound. The shot was at 60 yards. This is not a real hot load but it's accurate in my pistol and just about all I want to shoot off hand during hunting.  I think with the 4x scope I could get decent groups out farther but haven't had the time or chance to do so. Good luck with working up a load.

Try around 55-56 grn of IMR3031 and the Sierra 300 HP  or 58 grns and Barnes 250 X.  Oh, these are stout so start lower and work up.  T

Jamie,  What kind of velocity do you get with the 250g Barnes?

I like cast bullets. I use the 300 gr. gas check RCBS. Cast of wheel weights + 2% tin, they weigh about 330 gr. I load 42gr. of IMR 4198 for 1550 fps. The accuracy is around 1.750" at 100 yds., using an Aimpoint. Kills deer great and a lot cheaper then jacketed bullets. This load is safe in my barrel, it may not be safe in your barrel.  8)
