Big boar with Handi 243.
« on: May 10, 2005, 07:00:17 AM »
I took a large boar with my son's youth 243. at about 25 yds.  We were turkey hunting when we walked up on him.  It took three shots to keep him down for good.  We did not have a way to weigh him but I think he was close to 300lbs.  2in. cutters.  I'am not good at posting pics, it never seems to work.

What load/bullets were you using? Where were the shots placed?  I assume good placement since the distance was only 25yds  .

How did the bullets perform?  Inquiring minds want to know. :-D

Fed 80 grain Power Shok.  Don't have time to reload.  Shot placement was good just a big hog.

Very well done.  I hope to use my Encore in .243 to take a hog or two this year, and I also want to use my 25 WSSM.  Might even try to take a smaller hog with my 22-250.

Did the Federal exit?  Really trying to find out how these lighter bullets do.

3 shots to keep him down? Why? specialy with a 243 at that close range. hit em right behind the ear and they wont move an inch. Ive shot a few 280+lb pigs with my .243 , they never flinch.

The first shot was in the neck.  Second shot was in the back while he was walking away.  Third shot was in the neck as he was tring to get up.  I found only one exit wound and it was the size of a half dollar.
